Scalisi Leads Wildcats Past D'Youville In ECC Opener

Daemen Wins 3-1; Junior Forward Plays A Role In All Three Goals

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Junior Tatyjana Scalisi (Williamsville, N.Y.) totaled a goal and two assists to lead the Daemen College women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over crosstown rival D'Youville College at Dobson Field. It marked the East Coast Conference opener for both teams. Daemen improved to 2-3-0 overall, while the host Saints dropped to 1-3-0.

Today marked his is the fourth all-time meeting between the '716' programs, and their first-ever meeting as conference foes. The teams did face each other twice last spring as part of their independent schedules after the ECC canceled the 2020 fall sports season due to COVID-19. Daemen leads the all-time series, 4-0.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The game remained scoreless until the 24th minute when Scalisi netted her first goal of the season off a feed from sophomore Demi McCalliog (Wolverhampton, England).
  • The Wildcats doubled their lead just seven minutes later when Scalisi set up freshman Baylin Tighe (Tonawanda, N.Y.). It marked the first collegiate goal for the rookie defender out of Tonawanda High School.
  • The Saints got on the scoreboard with just seven seconds left in the first half following an unassisted goal by junior Maggie Leeds.
  • The Wildcats maintained their one goal lead throughout the second half and eventually secured the win when junior Faye Panagopoulos (Kenmore, N.Y.) scored just before the final buzzer.
  • Junior Tori DeLappi (Medina, Ohio) registered one save for the Wildcats, while junior Laurie Poeller stopped a season high 11 shots for the hosts.
