AMHERST, N.Y. – On what was a chilly night in Western New York, Daemen men's basketball heated up with some key stretches when they faced the Molloy Lions Friday night.
A 21-point lead at halftime (48-27) and four double-figure scorers helped the Wildcats continue their recent productive stretch with a 93-59 victory over the Lions in East Coast Conference play. Graduate student
Sean Fasoyiro (Houston, Tex) led all players with 19 points and 12 rebounds while teammates
Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y.) added 13 points and nine rebounds and
Kyle Harris (Buffalo, N.Y.) and
Joey Atkins (Watervliet, N.Y.) added 11 points apiece to all finish in double-figure scoring.
With the victory, Daemen has now won six of its last seven games (fourth straight), improved to 9-6 overall and remained atop the East Coast Conference standings with a perfect 6-0 conference mark – their best start since joining the conference in the 2013-14 season. Molloy, meanwhile, drops to 3-11 overall and 2-3 in ECC play.
Fasoyiro and Sischo helped the Wildcats build a 14-9 lead at the 13:46 by each making three baskets all inside the arc, using driving lay-ups and jump shots. Molloy brought the game within close range on three separate occasions before Sey Dieng's fast-break lay-up tied the game at 20-20 – the only tie in the contest. Daemen took control of the half at this point. After an exchange of baskets between Daemen's
Juston Johnson (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Molloy's William Muller cut the Wildcats' lead to three points (25-22), the blue-and-white responded with a massive 23-5 run over the last 6:49 of the first half. The basketball was shared during this stretch, with more action in the paint from Fasoyiro and Sischo and three three-pointers from Harris – including back-to-back makes with under three minutes left in the half. Daemen went into the locker room with a 48-27 lead.
Sophomore
Andrew Mason (Webster, N.Y.) knocked down his second three-pointer of the night to start Daemen's second half (51-27) before Molloy brought the score within 19 points with 12:56 left to play (59-40.) That's as close as Molloy would get as the Wildcats continued to make scoring opportunities and ending the game on a 34-19 run with efforts on both ends of the floor coming from inside the paint and beyond the arc from Atkins and
Nick MacDonald (Amherst, N.Y.) down the stretch. A basket from senior
Sayeed Osorio (New York, N.Y.) with 0:30 remaining ended the scoring and gave Daemen its largest lead of the night (93-59)
