Streaking Men's Basketball On The Move In D2SIDA Regional Poll

Wildcats up to No. 6 ranking this week

AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen is ranked No. 6 in the NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) East Region Men's Basketball Media Poll for week 10 of the 2021-22 season. The D2SIDA East Region Media Poll is conducted by sports information professionals representing the East Coast Conference, Northeast-10 Conference and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

This marks Daemen's highest ranking since November 14 when the team was also ranked No. 6. The Wildcats were ranked No. 3 in the preseason version of the poll released on November 1, and made their return to the rankings last Monday in a tie for No. 9 following a five-week hiatus.

As winners of seven straight games, the Wildcats are among the hottest teams in the country. Only Bentley, which occupies the No. 1 spot the in this week's poll, has a longer active winning streak among East Region teams (eight straight wins). The winning streak has the Wildcats positioned at 12-6 overall and a perfect 9-0 in ECC play.

The Wildcats are coming off a sweep of weekend road games at St. Thomas Aquinas (73-61) and Mercy (76-59). Friday's win over the regionally ranked Spartans is arguably Daemen's best of the season. It was the first matchup between the ECC rivals since last season's final round of last season's NCAA Division II East Regional won by the Wildcats. Daemen has won four of the last seven meetings with STAC in a rivalry that features the two winningest Division II programs in New York since the 2013-14 season.

Bentley grabbed all six first-place votes to take over the top spot from Dominican (N.Y.) which dropped to No. 2. The Chargers had occupied the No. 1 ranking for seven consecutive weeks. St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Anselm each totaled 43 points to sit in a tie at No. 3, while Jefferson is ranked No. 5 with 37 points, six more than Daemen.

The bottom of this week's poll includes No. 7 New Haven, No. 8 Stonehill, No. 9 Adelphi and No. 10 Franklin Pierce.

Daemen has been ranked in 42 of the last 48 D2SIDA regional polls dating back to January 2018, posting an 88-27 record over that span.
