AMHERST, N.Y. – Freshman Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) scored two goals to lead Daemen University to a 3-0 victory over crosstown rival D'Youville University in NCAA Division II women's soccer action this afternoon at Karrer Field.
Daemen is now 2-1-1 over its last four games and improved to 2-9-2 overall and 2-3-0 in the East Coast Conference. D'Youville dropped to 2-9-1 overall and 1-4-0 in the league.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Daemen fired nine shots at the D'Youville goal over the first 21 minutes of the game, but the contest remained scoreless until the 37 minute when senior Faye Panagopoulos (Kenmore, N.Y.) scored for the hosts. Graduate student Grace Stranahan (Grand Island, N.Y.) created the scoring chance when she sent a pass up to Panagopoulos from around midfield. Panagopoulos battled and D'Youville defender for the ball and then sent a shot past Saints goalkeeper Reagan Duval from 10 yards out for her first goal of the year.
- Daemen took a 1-0 lead into halftime and secured the win 15 minutes into the second half when Miranto struck for two goals in the span of 2:37.
- Her first tally was unassisted at 61:20, as she stole an attempted clear by a defender and blasted a shot past Duval from 20 yards out. It marked her first career goal as well.
- Her second goal came off a corner kick by junior Madita Zeitz (Malsch, Germany) at 63:57, as Miranto got a head on the kick and sent the shot into the upper right corner.
- Daemen out shot the Saints 12-3 in the second half and the hosts finished with a 22-4 advantage in shots overall (12-1 in shots on goal).
- Freshman goalkeeper Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) made her third start of the year for Daemen and was credited with one save en route to her first career shutout.
- Duval made seven saves for D'Youville before giving way to Kallie Regan in the 65th minute. Regan recorded two saves.
GAME NOTES
- Today's game marked sixth all-time meeting between the Wildcats and the Saint. Daemen has prevailed in all six meetings.
- Today's game was Daemen's first home game since Sept. 10. The Wildcats closed out a stretch of seven-straight road games this past weekend at Molloy.

- Daemen is idle until Saturday, Oct. 22 when they visit rival Roberts Wesleyan University for an ECC game.
