AMHERST, N.Y. – The Daemen University women's volleyball team fell to Gannon 3-1 (21-25, 15-25, 25-21, 25-27) in a Tuesday evening tilt at Lumsden Gymnasium. The Wildcats move to 13-4 on the season, and 7-4 against non-conference opponents on the year.
Statistically, Gannon and Daemen matched up well. The Wildcats out-killed the Golden Knights 58-55, but in the end, the errors were the difference. Daemen committed 30 attack errors, 10 service errors and two block errors, compared to 14 attack errors for Gannon, six service errors and one block error.
With tonight's loss, Daemen's eight-game win streak comes to an end.
The Wildcats hit the road for their second-straight non-conference matchup on Friday, Oct. 21 when they take on St. Rose at 6 PM. They resume their East Coast Conference slate over the weekend, traveling to play at Queens on Saturday at 1 PM, then taking on Molloy on Sunday at 11 AM.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- For the 10th time this season, outside hitter Maggie Burns (Louisville, Ky.) led the Wildcats on offense. The senior tallied 11 kills (3.66 kills/set), adding seven digs, two aces and an assisted block.
- Junior middle blocker Vanessa Kuliga (Glenview, Ill.) totaled double-digit kills for the fifth time this season. She finished with 10 kills (2.5 kills/set) with a team-high .409 hitting percentage. She added two aces and two assisted blocks.
- Junior setter Olivia Alessi (East Aurora, N.Y.) earned second double-double (assists-digs) of the season, tallying 41 assists (10.25 assists/set) and 21 digs (5.25 digs/set). She added a season-high seven kills (1.75 kills/set) for a .333 hitting percentage and a service ace.
- Sophomore middle hitter Amelia Armstrong (River Falls, Wisc.) totaled eight kills (2.0 kills/set) on the night, as well as a solo block.
- Graduate student Sam Logan (Eden, N.Y.) finished with eight kills (2.0 kills/set), two assists and nine digs.
- Senior outside hitter Jordan Martin (Fort Wayne, Ind.) tallied seven kills to average 2.33 kills per set. She added 12 digs (4.0 digs/set).
- Sophomore right side Kate Ryan (Buffalo, N.Y.) knocked down five kills with just one error for a .364 hitting percentage. She added three digs and an assisted block.
- Junior libero Jasmine Brundage (East Aurora, N.Y.) totaled 21 digs (5.25 digs per set), and added four assists.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- After being down 2 sets to none, Daemen rallied back to win the third set 25-2, out-killing the Golden Knights 18-14 for a .269 hitting percentage to keep the game alive.
- Errors plagued the Wildcats in the first set, with Daemen committing 10 errors compared to just four for Gannon.
- Kuliga completed her fifth multiple-ace game of the season, finishing with two on the night.
- Burns tallied five of Daemen's nine set kills in the second.
- The Wildcats rallied from an 18-9 deficit late in the second set, bringing the game to within six points (20-14).
- Gannon out-blocked Daemen 16-5.
- Two Daemen players totaled double-digit kills this afternoon. Burns and Kuliga combined to earn 21 of Daemen's 58 total kills in the match.

- This was the 16th meeting between the Wildcats and the Golden Knights. Daemen has lost 15 matches.
