10/26/2022 5:32:00 PM

AMHERST, N.Y. -- The Daemen University women's cross country team remains ranked second in the East Region for the sixth straight poll, as released yesterday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) in the weekly regional rankings. The East Region consists of the top teams from the East Coast Conference, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, and the Northeast-10 Conference. The Wildcats have been ranked second in the region throughout the entirety of the season.

Southern New Hampshire remains atop the women's poll, while Daemen, Roberts Wesleyan, Saint Anselm and Southern Connecticut round out the top five in the region. The bottom five consists of Adelphi, Felician, Le Moyne, Jefferson (Pa.) and St. Thomas Aquinas.

The Wildcats have been idle since placing fourth overall and first among non-Division I schools at the Canisius Alumni Classic on Oct. 15. Sophomore Marcy Colca (Getzville, N.Y.) was the first Daemen runner to finish, coming in sevnth out of 156 runners, posting a time of 18:43.2 over the 5K race. Graduate student Kassandra Nolet (Fort Erie, Ont.) finished second on the team at 21st overall, freshman Patsy Oberholzer (Greece, N.Y.) earned a 5K PR of 19:24.7, placing 27th overall. Senior Courtney Merrill (Speedway, Ind.) finished 41st, and junior Camryn Bailey (Geneva, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for the Wildcats with her 49th place finish. In the biggest race they've run so far this season and with multiple Division-I teams, this was the first time the Wildcats did not win the team title at a race this season. Daemen's four consecutive team victories prior to start the season is the most in program history.

Daemen entered the season ranked second in the preseason regional rankings for the first time since 2017. The Wildcats closed out the 2021 season ranked sixth in the final USTFCCCA regional poll.

The Wildcats return to action on Nov. 5 when they travel to Rochester for the ECC Championships.
