FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Daemen University women's tennis team saw their fall season come to an end today following a 4-0 loss to top-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas in the semifinal round of the
2022 East Coast Conference Championship tournament played at the Queens College Tennis Center.

Daemen dropped to 3-7 on the season. The Wildcats had earned the tournament's No. 4 seed following their 5-2 victory over Molloy last week, finishing the conference slate with a 2-3 mark. STAC unbeaten (9-0) on the season.
STAC opened the match with a pair of wins to secure the doubles point. Paula Palero and Eliza Mulder were 6-2 winners over
Mackenzie Schayes (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) and
Ailish McDevitt (Jamesville, N.Y.) on the third doubles court. The Spartans followed with a 6-1 win at second doubles, as Jemima Parkinson and Elita Silins defeated
Yinett Del Leon (Cape Coral, Fla.) and
Carly Armitage (Rochester, N.Y.). With the doubles point decided, the first doubles match featuring Daemen'sÂ
Frida Rubio (San Diego, Calif.) andÂ
Kitsa Scime (Williamsville, N.Y.) against STAC's Ebba Rosberg and Samanta Villegas Robles was left unfinished with the Wildcats trailing 5-0.
The Spartans managed to lock up the match with wins in the fourth, fifth and sixth singles positions. Amaia Balaguer Brau defeated Armitage at No.4, 6-3, 6-0, Silins got past Schayes at No. 5, 6-0, 6-0, and Ayesha Burnett defeated McDevitt at No. 6, 6-1, 6-0.
With the dual match fully decided, the first, second and third singles matches were left unfinished. Rubio was down a set to Rosberg (1-6, 3-2) on the top court; Scime was up a set (6-2, 1-3) against Viktoriia Pavlovets on the second court; and Del Leon was down 1-6, 1-5 to Villegas at No. 3 singles.
STAC moves on to tomorrow's final round where they'll meet third-seeded Queens, which upset second-seeded District of Columbia, 4-0.
Daemen was making their third consecutive appearance in the conference tournament.Â
Daemen's 2022-23 season will continue during the Spring 2023 semester. The team's spring schedule will be announced at a later date.
