Wildcats Win 69-66 Thriller Over Le Moyne

Daemen Women's Basketball Earns Second 3-0 Start Since 2020-21

AMHERST, N.Y. -- In a down to the wire thriller, the Daemen University women's basketball team outlasted a late comeback by Le Moyne to come away with the 69-66 victory. The Wildcats improve to 3-0 to open up the season for the first time since the 2020-21 season. Led by junior guard Kaytlyn Matz (Johnsburg, Ill.) and graduate student Paige Emborsky (Newfane, N.Y.) who combined for 29 of Daemen's points, the Wildcats held off the Dolphins' fourth-quarter run in which Le Moyne out-scored Daemen 27-19.

Sophomore Julia Hauer (Binghampton, N.Y.) banked three buckets in the final two minutes to keep the Wildcats with a late lead over the Dolphins that was ultimately the difference-maker in the game. 

Le Moyne senior Lytoya Baker led all shooters on the day with 18 points. The Dolphins move to 2-1 on the season. 

IMPACT PLAYERS
  • Kaytlyn Matz and went 4-of-7 from the field and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc to lead all Wildcat shooters with 15 points. 
  • Julia Hauer's late-game heroics attributed to a season-high 10 points. The sophomore forward finished 5-of-7 from the field, and pulled down a team-high five rebounds, including a team-high three offensive rebounds.
  • Paige Emborsky scored double-digit points for the third straight game, putting up 14 points, five rebounds, a block and a steal. 
  • Junior guard Gabby McDuffie (Buffalo, N.Y.) put up her best offensive game of the season, totaling 11 points after shooting 75-percent from beyond the arc (3-of-4). She added three rebounds to her stat line, and banked two free throws in the final seconds of the game to give the Wildcats' the late advantage.
  • Junior Natalie Angeletti (Panama, N.Y.) and freshman Claire Pikett (Holland, N.Y.) both pulled down four rebounds a piece. 
  • Mikayla Ivy (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Shyla Montgomery (Brockton, Mass.) combined for eight of Daemen's 14 assists on the day, with both the fifth-year forward and freshman guard putting up four assists a piece.
GAME NOTES
  • Emborsky, Paige and McDuffie banked crucial free-throws in the final minutes of the game for the win.
  • The Wildcats led 50-39 after three quarters. Le Moyne went on a 16-3 run to begin the fourth quarter, and would go on to out-score the Wildcats 27-19 in the final quarter. 
  • Daemen saw success from beyond the arc in today's game. The Wildcats banked 11-of-22 three-pointers to finish 50-percent from the distance. Daemen shot 36-percent from the field on the day, going 21-of-58. 
  • The Wildcats bench scored 29 points on the day, marking their second-most points off the bench on the season (Daemen scored a season-high 33 bench points against Felician on Saturday, Nov. 12).  
  • With the win, Daemen snaps a five-game losing streak to Le Moyne that spanned back to 2013.

The Wildcats are set to host Saint Michael's on Sunday at 11 AM at Lumsden Gymnasium.
