Wildcats Fall To Top-Seeded Mavericks In ECC Tournament Semifinal Action

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Daemen University women's soccer team saw its season come to end this afternoon following a 2-0 loss to top-seeded Mercy College in semifinal round action of the 2022 East Coast Conference Women's Soccer Championship.

Mercy, which is ranked No. 20 in the United Soccer Coaches Division II national poll, improved to 13-2-1 overall and will host the tournament championship game Saturday. The Mavericks will face either second-seeded Molloy University of third-seeded Roberts Wesleyan University in the title game. The ECC Tournament champion receives and automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament.

Daemen, which went 5-1-1 over its final seven regular season games to secure its second straight appearance in the ECC Tournament, finishes with an overall record of 5-10-2.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Mercy opened the scoring 15 minutes into the game when junior Madison Rosa scored off a pass from graduate student Jessica Hoyt.
  • The Mavericks took a 1-0 lead into halftime and they doubled their lead with 32 minutes left in the second half when freshman Ancksu Dixon scored off a cross from Rosa. It marked the ninth goal of the year for the rookie.
  • Mercy finished with a 15-2 advantage in shots overall (6-0 in shots on goal).
  • Senior goalkeeper Tori DeLappi (Medina, Ohio) went the distance in goal for Daemen and was credited with three saves. Freshman Kamy Anaya picked up the shutout for Mercy, her seventh solo clean slate of the year.

  • Freshman Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) had her four-game goal scoring streak snapped today and finished the year ranked second on the team in goals (5) and points (11).
  • Today's game was a rematch of last year's ECC Tournament semifinal game. Mercy prevailed 2-0 in that contest.
