Women's Basketball Finishes Exhibition Slate With 87-32 Loss At Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Daemen University women's basketball team played their second and final exhibition game of the season on the road taking on #25 ranked Michigan Wolverines at the Crisler Center on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats fell to Michigan 87-32. Michigan forward Emily Kiser led all shooters today, racking up 18 points for the Wolverines.

Daemen shot 22-percent from the field (11-of-51) and 35-percent from beyond the three (6-of-17). Michigan shot 50-percent from the field (30-of-60), and 41-percent from beyond the arc (9-of-22).
 
Today's game was the second of two exhibition games against Division I opponents for the Wildcats. Daemen fell 61-51 against the University at Buffalo Bulls last Sunday, Oct. 30.
 
IMPACT PLAYERS
  • Junior guard Alahna Paige (Rochester, N.Y.) led all Daemen shooters from the first half, accruing nine of Daemen's 18 points, all coming on three-balls, through the first two quarters. Paige finished with 11 points, one rebound and an assist.
  • Junior forward Natalie Angeletti (Panama, N.Y.) finished with a team-high seven rebounds in 28 minutes, and added six points, a steal and a block on the day.
  • It was a homecoming to the state of Michigan for Daemen fifth-year Mickayla Ivy (Grand Rapids, Mich.) this afternoon. The 5-10 forward pulled down two defensive rebounds, and added three points, two assists, a steal and two blocks.
     
GAME NOTES
  • The Wildcats led twice in the first quarter, taking an 8-4 lead over the Wolverines after two three-pointers by Paige. Daemen trailed 25-11 after the first quarter.
  • Michigan went on a 24-point run from midway through the first quarter until midway through the second quarter. The Wolverines led 45-18 at the half.
  • In the first half, Daemen shot just 25-percent from the field (7-of-28) and 44-percent from beyond the arc (4-of-9). Michigan shot 47-percent (14-of-30) from the field, and 50-percent (4-of-8) from three-point land.
  • The Wildcats trailed 65-26 at the end of the third. Daemen's eight points came on three-pointers from Ivy and Claire Pikett (Holland, N.Y.), as well as a layup by Paige.
  • This was the first time Daemen played Michigan. The Wolverines returned four of their five top scorers from last season's NCAA Division I Elite Eight team, including today's top-scorer in graduate student Emily Kiser, who started in all 32 games last season and was named to the Big Ten honorable mention after last season. Michigan sophomore Greta Kampshroeder, who transferred to the Wolverines from Oregon State this season, finished with 16 points on the day and is the program's first McDonald's All American.

UP NEXT
The Wildcats open up the season next weekend at the Redhawks Classic. Daemen will face Pace in a rematch of the 2022 Division II East Region Championship game in the season opener on Friday, Nov. 11 at 8 PM in Rochester.
