Hawks Outlast Wildcats In Sunday Matchup

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Daemen University women's basketball team dropped their second game of the year, falling to Saint Anselm 54-38 on the road on Sunday afternoon. This was Daemen's second loss in nine days, losing to St. Thomas Aquinas last Friday night in their first L of the season. The Wildcats move to 7-2 on the year, the Hawks win their second straight and move to 4-7.
 
This was Daemen's biggest loss of the season. Saint Anselm held Daemen to under 10 points in two quarters on the day and really turned up the intensity in the fourth, outscoring the Wildcats 15-3 in the final quarter of play. The Cats had a hard time scoring today, shooting just 26.7-percent from the field (16-of-60) and 13-percent from beyond the arc (3-of-22). The Hawks held onto a lead for 71-percent of the game. Melanie Hoyt of Saint A's led all scorers on the day with 16 points.
 
Daemen will play in their final game of 2022 on Thursday, Dec. 29 when they travel to play at Goldey-Beacom in a 2 PM matchup.

IMPACT PLAYERS
  • Fifth year forward Mickayla Ivy (Grand Rapids, Mich.) was the only Daemen shooter to score double-digit points and led the Wildcats on the day, scoring a season-high 10 points and pulling down eight rebounds in the game. She shot 38.5 percent from the field (5-of-13) today.
  • Redshirt junior guard Alina Estrella (Brooklyn, N.Y.) tallied a season-high eight rebounds, leading the team with five offensive boards and three defensive rebounds. She finished with five points and a steal.
  • Junior guard Alahna Paige (Rochester, N.Y.) played 34 minutes and finished with a season-high four steals today and added three defensive rebounds, two assists and five points.
  • Freshman forward Claire Pikett (Holland, N.Y.) made her first career start and totaled three steals, three rebounds and four points on the day.
GAME NOTES
  • Daemen jumped out to a 7-0 lead early and went into the second quarter up 12-11.
  • Ivy led all shooters after the first quarter with four points and two rebounds.
  • The Wildcats made just one of 11 three-pointers in the first quarter.
  • Saint A's went on a 17-3 run in the second quarter and outscored the Cats 19-9 in the quarter to take a 30-21 lead over Daemen heading into the half.
  • Daemen shot 46-percent from the field (6-of-13) in the third quarter and outscored the Hawks 14-9 in the third.
  • Four Wildcats scored five points on the day.
  • Daemen tallied 11 steals, marking the third straight game and the seventh time this season that they notched double-digit steals.
  • The Wildcats are 0-5 all time against the Hawks.
