Box Score AMHERST, N.Y. - With Western New York bragging rights on the line, the Daemen men's volleyball team needed just slightly more than 60 minutes to dispose of Medaille, winning 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-9) at Lumsden Gymnasium this evening.
With the win, Daemen improved to 4-2 this season. The Wildcats are an independent member of NCAA Division II and are in the midst of the program's fourth season. Daemen has won 23 of their last 27 matches dating back to February of 2020, and are now 7-1 in their last eight home matches.
Medaille is a member of NCAA Division III and the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. The Mavericks dropped to 1-5 this season and to 0-5 all-time against Daemen.
The Wildcats jumped out to leads of 13-3 (first set), 16-10 (second set) and 19-6 (third set) and were never seriously threatened. Daemen amassed 34 kills on a .484 hitting percentage, while Medaille committed as many hitting errors (18) as kills (18). The Wildcats also owned a 12-0 lead in points from the service line.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- Senior middle hitter Henry Moffitt (Sydney, Australia) led a balanced Daemen offense with seven kills on a .778 hitting percentage.
- Junior outside hitter Parker Wade (Portland, Ore.) contributed six kills while sophomore opposite Cameron Milligan (Pavilion, N.Y.) and junior middle hitter Jake Couzens (Hamburg, N.Y.) totaled five kills and four service aces apiece. Milligan added a team-high seven digs.
- Matthew Garry (Depew, N.Y.) added four kills, three service aces and three digs to the Daemen cause.
- Junior setter Gavin Musielak (Eden, N.Y.) saw his first action of the season and finished with a match-high 27 assists.
GAME NOTES
- The Wildcats return 12 players from their 2021 team that finished 10-0, including their top hitter (Zach Schneider), top setter (Michael Krueger), top back row defender (Ryan Parker) and top net defender (Jake Couzens).
- Today's match was the third of a nine-match home stand that covers January 29 through March 2. It marks the longest home stand in program history.
