Geoff Schneider Wildcats Place Eighth Again In D2SIDA Regional Poll 2/14/2022 3:00:00 PM By: CONTACT: Mike Miranto, Sr. Associate A.D. for External Operations & Communications | (716) 839-8385 | mmiranto@daemen.edu AMHERST, N.Y. - For a fourth consecutive week, Daemen remains at No. 8 in the NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) East Region Women's Basketball Media Poll. The latest poll, for week 13 of the 2021-22 season, was released this afternoon. The Wildcats have now been ranked in 34 consecutive D2SIDA regional polls, a span that dates back to early January 2019. The defending East Region champions are 15-3 overall and remain the only unbeaten in East Coast Conference play (13-0) following victories at home against D'Youville (79-45 on Feb. 9) and on the road against Dist. Columbia (82-72 on Feb. 13). The Wildcats have now won 22 consecutive contests in ECC play dating back to the start of last season. With the victory Sunday against the Firebirds, Daemen clinched a top-two finish in the ECC standings and a bye into the semifinal round of next month's conference tournament. The Wildcats now hold the longest winning streak (13 straight) in the East region after Chestnut Hill saw their own 13-game winning streak end in a 79-72 overtime loss to Dominican on Feb. 9. Including her 34-point outing Sunday at UDC, senior forward Katie Titus (Penfield, N.Y.) continues to lead the Wildcats in points per game (19.9, also ECC-best) and rebounds per game (8.4) while redshirt senior Tiara Filbert (Batavia, N.Y.) is second in points per game (11.7) along with a team-high 4.2 assists per game (tied-fourth best in ECC.) Daemen now welcomes St. Thomas Aquinas (Friday, Feb. 18 at 5:30 PM) and Mercy (Sunday, Feb. 20 at 12 PM) to Lumsden Gymnasium for the final home stand of the regular season. Five student-athletes will be recognized as part of the program's Senior Day celebration prior to to Sunday's game. Daemen accumulated 19 points in this week's poll. Before sliding down in the Jan. 24 poll, the Wildcats had sole possession of the No. 7 ranking for four weeks and were tied for seventh with Southern Connecticut State for the week of Dec. 13. This week, Le Moyne jumped three spots from No. 4 to No. 1, improved to 15-4 overall and received three first-place votes (53 total points.) Pace (18-5) and Southern New Hampshire (17-5) are tied for second and both teams received one first-place vote each. After staying at the top the past two weeks, Bentley slid down to No. 4 with a 13-6 record and received the sixth and final first-place vote. Following the top four spots, there was no movement in this week's poll, in terms of which other teams are ahead of Daemen. However this week, Chestnut Hill (20-4) now find themselves tied for fifth with USciences (17-3) after having sole possession in last week's poll. Jefferson (19-5) remains steady at No. 7. The back end of the poll features Stonehill (10-7) at No. 9 for a second straight week while fellow ECC member Molloy enters at No. 10.
