Daemen Bowlers Open Play Medaille Brunswick Classic

2/26/2022 7:43:00 PM

KENMORE, N.Y. - The Daemen women's bowling team posted a 1-2 record and totaled 4,253 pins across five rounds to open play at the Medaille Brunswick Classic held today at Classic Lanes.

The Wildcats, who have claimed titles in the last two tournaments they've entered, suffered back-to-back losses at the outset today, falling to D'Youville (935-866) and Mercyhurst (754-718). They were able to rebound with a 913-747 defeat of Penn State Behrend - their eighth win against the Lions this season and 18th in 20 all-time meetings. Today's action also included two blind rounds where the Wildcats knocked down 870 and 886 pins which count towards their total pinfall number.

After being named to the All-Tournament Team at the Wildcat Division II Invitational last weekend, junior Paige Bartosz (West Seneca, N.Y.) continued her stellar season today. Bartosz was the lone Daemen player to reach 200 pins in a match today, and did so three times. She rolled a 222 in the loss to D'Youville and a 205 in the win over Penn State Behrend. Her best round of the day, a 226, came in the Wildcats' first blind round. She led the Wildcats with a 200.2 scoring average across the five rounds.

Graduate student Alex Hasiotis (Rochester, N.Y.) and sophomore Mollie Gizicki (Brighton, Mich.) also saw action in all five rounds. Gizicki rolled a 193 in the opening match vs. D'Youville and posted a 167.6 average. Hasiotis' best effort came against PSB when she rolled a 188, finishing the day with a 158.6 average. Junior Caitlyn Nowak (West Seneca, N.Y.) had a 170 average while bowling in four rounds.

Today's match results put the Wildcats' record at 37-30 this season. They are just three wins shy of tying the program record which was set during the 2019-20 campaign when the Wildcats finished 40-34.

The Medaille Brunswick Classic resumes at 9 a.m. Sunday with five Baker format matches on the docket for each participating team. Daemen faces Roberts Wesleyan, Pitt-Bradford, Medaille and D'Youville before their final positional round match.
