Geoff Schneider Men's Basketball Holds At No. 5 In D2SIDA Regional Poll Winners of 11 straight, Wildcats among hottest teams in the country 2/7/2022 1:55:00 PM By: CONTACT: Mike Miranto, Sr. Associate A.D. for Communications/Operations AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen is ranked No. 5 in the NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) East Region Men's Basketball Media Poll for week 12 of the 2021-22 season. The D2SIDA East Region Media Poll is conducted by sports information professionals representing the East Coast Conference, Northeast-10 Conference and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. It marks the second straight week that Daemen has come in at No. 5 - the Wildcats' highest ranking since the preseason version of the poll when they were ranked third. On the strength of the region's longest active winning streak, the Wildcats are among the hottest teams in the country. Daemen has won 11 straight contests - presently tied for the third-longest among all NCAA Division II teams. The winning streak has the Wildcats positioned at 16-6 overall and a perfect 13-0 in ECC play. They are the only East Region team without a loss in conference play. The Wildcats extended their winning streak with a pair of conference road wins last week. They routed rival Roberts Wesleyan, winning 101-71 last Wednesday, and added a 95-74 win at Bridgeport in a Saturday matinee. The Wildcats are outscoring opponents by 19.4 points per game during their winning streak and have now shot 50% or better both overall and from three-point range in five of their last eight contests. Bentley (15-3) grabbed all five of the six first-place votes to sit atop the poll for a third straight week. St. Thomas Aquinas (16-4) jumped one spot to No. 2 this week. Arguably Daemen's best win of the year came January 21 at St. Thomas Aquinas. Dominican (N.Y.) grabbed the lone remaining first-place vote, but slipped one spot to No. 3 this week. The Chargers (15-4) are followed by fellow CACC affiliate Jefferson (15-4) at No. 4. The bottom half of this week's poll includes No. 6 Saint Anselm (13-5), No. 7 Adelphi (15-6), No. 8 Post (14-7), No. 9 Pace (14-8) and No. 10 New Haven (12-7). Daemen has been ranked in 44 of the last 50 D2SIDA regional polls dating back to January 2018, posting a 91-28 record over that span. The Wildcats return to action this Wednesday, February 9 when they host crosstown rival D'Youville in an ECC contest with tip-off slated for 7:30 p.m. D2SIDA MEN'S BASKETBALL EAST REGION MEDIA POLL - WEEK 12 W-L PTS.
