Women's Bowling Competes For Conference Championship This Weekend

3/24/2022 2:30:00 PM

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen women's bowling team will look for another milestone moment when competing this weekend at the East Coast Conference Championship. The three-day tournament gets underway shortly after 8 a.m. Friday at Coram Country Lanes located in Suffolk County, Long Island.

Daemen is one of 13 teams in the tournament field and will be seeking the first ECC title in program history. The Wildcats advanced to the final round in 2021, but fell to rival Roberts Wesleyan.

The tournament will open five rounds of Baker format matches as teams compete in a round-robin style for later seeding purposes. Daemen drew a bye in the opening round, so they'll bowl against no other team but their pinfall total will count in the standings. Additional opening-day opponents include D'Youville (approx. 9:35 a.m.), Molloy (approx. 11:05 a.m.), Roberts Wesleyan (approx. 12:35 p.m.) and Adelphi (approx. 2:05 p.m.).

Once pool play is complete, teams will be seeded and shift to double elimination bracket play. The first match of bracket play concludes Friday's action at approximately 3:35 p.m.

The tournament resumes at 8 a.m. Saturday with double elimination matches occurring throughout the day.

Likewise Sunday, play resumes at 8 a.m. with only three teams remaining. The winner of that morning's final double elimination match advances to the championship round where a previous winner awaits. The championship round will be played via mega match which includes a five-person team match, Baker total pinfall and a best-of-seven Baker match play.

Daemen enters the tournament as a nationally-ranked team for the first time in program history. The Wildcats are ranked 14th in the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Division II/III Poll and own a 49-33 overall record. It marks the most wins in a single season dating back to the program's inception in 2015.

Daemen's tournament matches will be streamed on the team's Facebook page. The championship round will be streamed live on the ECC Network

The tournament champion will earn at automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Women's Bowling Championship to be held April 15-16 in Columbus, Ohio.
