Sischo & Fasoyiro Collect All-Conference & Major Award Honors

3/4/2022 11:15:00 AM

AMHERST, N.Y. - Graduate students Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y.) and Sean Fasoyiro (Houston, Tex.) of the Daemen College men's basketball team have been honored by the East Coast Conference for their outstanding play during the 2021-22 season.

Both players were named to the All-ECC First Team and both were also tabbed for major awards. Sischo was voted ECC Player of the Year foran unprecedented fourth-straight season, while Fasoyiro was named Defensive Player of the Year. The announcement was made this afternoon in a press release from conference headquarters on Long Island.

Sischo becomes first four-time recipient of the league's Player of the Year award and also the first player in league history to be named first-team All-ECC five times. He has now collected a major award from the ECC in each of his five seasons in the Daemen Blue & White. He was honored as the ECC Rookie of the Year following his redshirt freshman season (2017-18).

Sischo, a 6-foot-9 center, has once again been the linchpin behind a successful season for the Wildcats. He closed out the regular season as the ECC leader in both scoring (22.4 ppg) and rebounding (13.0 rpg) and leads all NCAA Division II players in rebounding and double-doubles (22). He's put up 20 or more points in 16 games so far this season and has scored 30 or more points six times. A seven-time ECC Player of the Week selection, he scored a season-high 37 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in an early-season win over the College of Saint Rose and and came close to posting a triple-double during a win over the University of the District of Columbia on Dec. 20 when he put up 23 points, 16 rebounds and seven assists.

It's been another milestone-filled season for the Daemen big man who is the active leader for career points (2,829), rebounds (1,451), field goals (1,122) and double-doubles (82) across all NCAA divisions. During the course of this season, Sischo has become the all-time leading rebounder for both Daemen and the ECC, as well as the ECC's all-time leading scorer. Also, Sischo recently surpassed SUNY Geneseo's Scott Fitch to become the all-time leading scorer for all NCAA men's basketball programs in New York. He ranks 17th in career points and fifth in career rebounds among the all-time leaders in NCAA Division II. A two-time consensus All-American, Sischo is one of 20 NCAA Division II players recently named to the Bevo Francis Award Top 50 Watch List. He is the lone representative out of the NCAA Division II East Region.

Fasoyiro has made an immediate impact at Daemen since transferring to the program prior to the 2020-21 season. Fasoyiro has started all 27 games this season and ranks second on the team in scoring (12.9 ppg.), rebounding (6.0 rpg.), assists (79) and steals (25). He came one assist shy of a triple-double when he racked up 23 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists and four steals during a win over Saint Rose on Nov. 27. He has scored in double figures 21 times this season.

Fasoyiro has headed up a defense that ranks first among all ECC teams in points allowed per game (66.8), field goal percentage defense (.402), three-point field goal percentage defense (.287), defensive rebounds per game (23.1) and total rebounds per game (33.1). The Wildcats also rank second in rebound margin (+7.7 pg).

Fasoyiro becomes the second player from Daemen to be named ECC Defensive Player of the Year, joining former great Gerald Beverly who earned the honor following his junior (2013-14) and senior (2014-15) seasons. Fasoyiro appeared in 81 games and totaled 494 points at Franklin Pierce University prior to transferring to Daemen. He has started all 43 games over his two seasons at Daemen and has totaled 572 points (13.3 ppg), 275 rebounds (6.4 rpg) and 142 assists (3.3 apg). He recorded his 1,000th career point during a win over D'Youville College last month. The Wildcats are 29-14 with Fasoyiro in the starting lineup.

Sischo and Fasoyiro were joined on the All-ECC first team by Osbel Caraballo and Demetre Roberts of St. Thomas Aquinas College, and Darren Fergus and William Muller of Molloy College. The All-ECC second team consisted of Messiah Mallory of the College of Staten Island, Jahmir Marable-Williams and Kenyone Stone of the University of the District of Columbia, Ja'Kair Sanchez of Roberts Wesleyan College and Grant Singleton of St. Thomas Aquinas. The All-ECC third third consisted of Roberts Wesleyan's Shane Fanning and Amari Lee, Molloy's Steven Torre, St. Thomas Aquinas' Jamal Barnes and Queens College's Dion Herrington.

In addition, the ECC announced that Mallory was voted Rookie of the Year and STAC's Tobin Anderson was named Coach of the Year.

Sischo and Fasoyiro led Daemen to a 19-8 overall record and a 16-2 league mark during the regular season. Daemen is the No. 2 seed in the ECC Championship tournament and will face third-seeded Molloy in the semifinal round. The semifinals and championship game will be hosted by No. 1 seed St. Thomas Aquinas. Daemen will be seeking its first-ever ECC tournament title.
