Daemen, a member of the East Coast Conference, evened its record at 3-3-1. Chestnut Hill, a member of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, remained winless at 0-5-2. HIGHLIGHTS Daemen opened the scoring in the 15th minute. Graduate student Carlos España chipped the ball into the Chestnut Hill box, where it deflected off a CHC defender to Daemen striker Nassim Zahouani (Saint Denis, France). Zahouani sent a shot into the upper left corner of the CHC net from 15 yards out. The Wildcats doubled their lead 13 minutes later when freshman Cody Cavuoto (Rochester, N.Y.) netted his first career goal. Zahouani sent the ball towards the CHC goal from the right flank and Cavuoto deflected the ball past freshman netminder Stephen Connor from 10 yards out. Daemen took a 3-0 lead with just 4:14 left in the first half. España sent a pass to senior Chris Cox (Buffalo, N.Y.) on the right flank and Cox one-timed a pass to classmate Eman Wajed (Buffalo, N.Y.) in front of the CHC net. Wajed slipped a shot past Connor for his second goal of the year. Daemen outshot the Griffins 6-2 in the first half and the Wildcats finished with a 12-7 edge in shots overall and a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal. Graduate student Marcos Lerma Escobar (Zaragoza, Spain) went the distance in goal for Daemen and stopped five shots en route to his first shutout of the year. Freshman Stephen Connor started in net for CHC and made three saves before being replaced by sophomore Connor McGrogan in the 62nd minute. McGrogan was credited with one save. GAME NOTES Zahouani's goal was the first of his career. A junior, he did not play the past two seasons. It marked the third career shutout for Lerma Escobar, who recorded his first career shutout last year during the 5-0 win over Chestnut Hill. Today's game marked just the second all-time meeting between the Wildcats and the Griffins. Daemen posted a 5-0 win over CHC last year at Karrar Field. Daemen has limited six of its seven opponents to one goal or less. UP NEXT Daemen is idle until next Wednesday (Sept. 28) when it hosts rival Roberts Wesleyan in an East Coast Conference game.
