1/23/2023 1:45:00 PM

AMHERST, N.Y. – The Daemen University men's basketball team is ranked eighth in the 10th NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) East Region Men's Basketball Media Poll for 2022-23. The poll was released this afternoon. The Wildcats have won seven straight--and nine of their last 10 games--and stand at 12-6 on the year. Daemen's seven-game winning streak ranks as the longest active streak among all NCAA Division II East Region teams.

The Wildcats improved to 12-6 overall and 5-3 in the East Coast Conference following road wins over D'Youville (56-53) and District of Columbia (80-70) last week. Daemen leads the ECC in team defense (65.4 papg) and has limited seven of its last 10 opponents to less than 70 points. Daemen features a balanced attack, with four starters averaging in double figures. Redshirt senior Joey Atkins (Watervliet, N.Y.) leads the team in scoring (12.8 ppg), rebounding (6.5 rpg), steals (29) and blocks (45). Junior Dylan Fasoyiro (Houston, Tex.) is averaging a team-high 16.7 points during the seven-game winning streak and scored 23 points during the win over District of Columbia this past weekend. Junior Andrew Mason (Webster, N.Y.) ranks third among the ECC leaders in three-pointers made (49) and leads the league in three-point field goal percentage (.480). The Wildcats close out a stretch of four-straight road games this weekend with league games at Molloy on Friday and Queens on Sunday.

Daemen collected 16 points in this week's regional poll. Bentley collected all six first place votes and remains atop the poll with 60 points. Saint Anselm (52), Dominican (46), New Haven (43) and St. Thomas Aquinas (35) round out the top five. The remainder of the poll includes Pace (28), Southern Connecticut State (23), Daemen (16), Southern New Hampshire (9) and Franklin Pierce (7).

The D2SIDA East Region media poll is conducted by sports information professionals representing the East Coast Conference, Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and Northeast-10 Conference.
