AMHERST, N.Y. -- The Daemen University women's basketball team dropped to sixth in the East Region in the latest Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) Women's Basketball Regional Poll,
as released on Monday afternoon. The Wildcats have been ranked in 44 straight regional polls, dating back to early January 2019. The East Region consists of 10 teams from the East Coast Conference, Northeast-10 Conference and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.
The Wildcats are 10-4 on the year and 5-3 in the ECC after the first half of conference play, and have lost the last four road games that they have played. Daemen dropped a pair of ECC games last week, first falling to crosstown rival D'Youville 51-60 on Tuesday evening in a game that saw graduate student guard
Paige Emborsky (Newfane, N.Y.) drop a career-high 19 points after knocking down 7-of-12 shots from the field and 3-of-6 three-point balls. The Wildcats then dropped their third conference game of the season and their second straight matchup with a 47-68 loss to District of Columbia on Saturday afternoon. Daemen fifth year forward
Mickayla Ivy (Grand Rapids, Mich.) led all Wildcat scorers with 14 points against UDC, and was the only Wildcat player to record double-digit points in the game.
Freshman forward
Claire Pikett (Holland, N.Y.) put together her best game of the season against the Firebirds on Saturday, playing a season-high 26 minutes and finishing with nine points, one point away from her first collegiate double-double (points-rebounds). She shot 3-of-10 from the field and knocked down a three and both free throws she took. Pikett finished with a career-high 10 rebounds, including eight defensive boards, and added three assists, one steal and five blocks in the loss. With her big defensive game on Saturday, Pikett moved into fourth on the team in rebounds, and averages 3.4 boards per game. She leads the Wildcats in blocks (15), and ranks third on the team in steals (16).
The Wildcats remain on the road this weekend with a pair of ECC matchups against Molloy on Friday at 5 PM and Queens on Sunday at 3:30 PM.
Jefferson remains in first place in the region and received four of the six first place votes with 58 points, while Assumption (54) earned the other two first place votes.
