ON THE ROAD AGAIN
The 10-4 Daemen University women's basketball team wraps up their four-game road slate with a pair of East Coast Conference matchups against the 3-15 Molloy Lions on Friday evening and a 3:30 PM game against the 5-13 Queens Knights on Sunday afternoon.
A LOOK BACK AT LAST WEEK
The Wildcats dropped both matchups they played last week, falling on Tuesday in a 60-51 loss to D'Youville then dropping their largest game of the season with a 68-47 loss to District of Columbia on Saturday afternoon. Graduate guard
Paige Emborsky (Newfane, N.Y.) posted a career-high 19 points while shooting 7-of-12 (58-percent) from the field and knocking down 3-of-6 three-pointers, but the Saints put together a standout fourth quarter to snap an 18-game losing streak to Daemen in a crosstown rivalry that dated back to 1986. The Wildcats then saw another long win streak get snapped on Saturday as the Firebirds outscored Daemen 21 to 9 in the fourth quarter of the game.
PIKETT AT THE BOARDS
Daemen freshman
Claire Pikett (Holland, N.Y.) put together her best two defensive games of the season last week, first with her career-high six rebound game against the Saints on Tuesday, then marking a new career-high on Saturday with her 10-rebound game against the Firebirds. Pikett was just one point shy of her first career double-double (points-rebounds) against UDC as she scored nine points and shot 3-for-10 from the field and knocked down 1-of-5 from beyond the arc, as well as a perfect 2-2 from the free throw line. Pikett also earned four total assists on the week (three against UDC), as well as a career-high five blocks against the Firebirds and a steal. She leads the team in blocks on the year (15) and moved up to fourth on the team in total rebounds (47) after her 16-rebound week.
NATION LEADER
Daemen's three machine
Paige Emborsky has been at the top of all of Division II in three point percentage with her impressive 60.7% for the majority of the 2022-23 season. On the year, Emborsky has knocked down 37 of 61 three-point shots on the season to account for 111 of her 174 total points this year, and she also leads all ECC shooters with a 53.7% field goal percentage this season. On the men's side, Andrew Mason (Webster, N.Y.) ranks fourth in D-II with his 48% three point percentage, and Daemen is the only program in all of Division II to have a men's basketball player and women's basketball player both ranked in the top-five of three point percentage. The Wildcat women also rank 12th in D-II in scoring defense, with Daemen allowing their opponents to score an average of 54.9 points per game.
POLL POSITION
The Wildcats dropped to sixth in the East Region in the latest Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) Women's Basketball Regional Poll,
as released on Monday afternoon. Daemen has been ranked in 44 straight regional polls, dating back to early January 2019. The East Region consists of 10 teams from the East Coast Conference, Northeast-10 Conference and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.
UP NEXT
The Wildcats return to Lumsden Gym next Friday, Feb. 3 for their first home game since Jan. 11 when they play host to Staten Island. Daemen will host District of Columbia the following Sunday, Feb. 5.
SCOUTING THE MOLLOY LIONS
