BUFFALO, N.Y. – Wrapping up the first half of East Coast Conference play, the Daemen University women's volleyball team won their eighth straight match and remained perfect in ECC play with a 3-0 sweep over D'Youville (25-18, 25-19, 25-16) on Thursday night.
The Wildcats move to 15-4 on the year and 6-0 in the ECC and extend their ECC regular season win streak to 29 straight. D'Youville, which was picked fifth in the league in the ECC preseason poll for their first year of postseason eligibility, drops to 5-14 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
A pair of Wildcats recorded double-digit kills tonight, with freshman phenom
Charlotte Koerber (Munich, Germany) finished with a match-high 11 kills, while fifth year senior
Maggie Burns (Louisville, Ky.) posted 10 kills on the day.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- Koerber tallied her ninth double-double of the season, finishing with 11 kills (3.67 kills/set) with just one error for a .455 hitting percentage and added 11 digs, three aces, and two assists for a match-high 14 points.
- Burns posted her eighth double-digit kill night of the season with 10 kills. She finished with eight digs, two assists, one ace and a solo block.
- Senior right side Giselle Giraud (Orlando, Fla.) tallied eight kills while hitting at a .353 clip and added four digs and a solo block.
- The middle blocker duo of Vanessa Kuliga (Glenview, Ill.) and Amelia Armstrong (River Falls, Wisc.) each tallied five kills on the night, with Armstrong finishing with two solo blocks and Kuliga adding another solo block.
- Senior libero Jasmine Brundage (East Aurora, N.Y.) posted 12 digs (4.0 digs/set), four assists, an ace and a kill. Senior setter Olivia Alessi (East Aurora, N.Y.) totaled 31 assists (10.33 assists/set), five digs and two kills.
GAME NOTES
- The Wildcats dominated the first set offensively, with seven different Daemen players recording kills in the set. Koerber led the way with six of Daemen's 15 kills as the Wildcats rolled to a .345 hitting percentage in the first, taking the set 25-18.
- Daemen won the second 25-19 after totaling 11 kills and hitting at a .222 clip while holding D'Youville to seven kills and a -.067 hitting percentage.
- The Saints put up a fight in the third, staying close throughout the set, but Daemen went on a 9-3 run at the end to take it 25-16. Giraud and Burns led the Wildcats offensively in the third, combining for eight of Daemen's 16 kills in the set.
- The Wildcats out-hit the Saints 42 to 21 and finished with a .270 hitting percentage.
- Daemen finished with seven aces courtesy of four different players. Koerber led the match with three aces.
