AMHERST, N.Y. – HOME, SWEEP HOME!!! The Daemen University women's volleyball team remained undefeated at Lumsden Gymnasium and swept their fifth straight match with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 15-) victory over the College of Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats extend their win streak to nine straight and move to 16-4 on the season. Saint Rose, who upset Daemen in their last meeting in 2022, drops to 5-14 on the year.
The Wildcats out-hit the Golden Knights 43 to 19 and hit at a .351 clip while holding Saint Rose to a -.020 hitting percentage. Two Wildcats tallied double-digit kills on the day, with
Charlotte Koerber (Munich, Germany) and
Giselle Giraud (Orlando, Fla.) leading Daemen offensively.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- Freshman outside hitter Charlotte Koerber tallied double-digit kills for the 13th match this season, finishing with a match-high 12 kills on 22 attacks for a .455 hitting percentage. Koerber added eight digs, an ace and an assist for a match-high 13 points.
- Senior right side Giselle Giraud posted 10 kills for a .348 hitting percentage, and added three assisted blocks and two digs for 11.5 points.
- Fifth-year senior outside hitter Maggie Burns (Louisville, Ky.) finished with nine kills and just one error for a .381 hitting percentage, and tallied six digs, three assisted blocks, one solo block and an assist for 11.5 points on the day.
- Senior middle Vanessa Kuliga (Glenview, Ill.) tallied seven kills and a team-high seven assisted blocks while adding an ace and one dig for 11.5 points.
- Senior libero Jasmine Brundage (East Aurora, N.Y.) led all players with 23 digs (7.67 digs/set) and added three assists and an ace.
- Senior setter Dunja Masic (McHenry, Ill.) ran the Wildcat offense with 32 assists (10.67 assists/set), seven digs, two aces, two assisted blocks and a kill.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The first set was one of runs, with the Wildcats and Golden Knights trading points throughout. Saint Rose went on a 5-1 run to bring the game within two points, but from there Daemen scored eight unanswered points to take the first 25-15. The Wildcats totaled 15 kills and posted a .244 hitting percentage. Kuliga posted four assisted blocks in the first.
- The Wildcats handled the second set 25-13 over Saint Rose, totaling 14 kills with just one attack error in the second and hitting at a .480 clip.
- Daemen cruised to a 25-11 third set victory, posting 14 kills for a .385 hitting percentage. Koerber led the Wildcats with four kills in the third set.
GAME NOTES
- The hunt for 1,000 continues for Burns!!! Including her one season spent at Urbana University, Burns has totaled 956 kills and 994 digs in her five-year career.
- The Wildcats are 6-1 all-time against Saint Rose with today's win.
- Daemen posted an impressive 16 assisted blocks, finishing with nine total blocks on the day to tie a match-high for the season.
- The Wildcats finished with just nine attack errors on the day, marking the third match this season that they had single-digit errors.
