Wildcats Complete Day One Of Destination Orlando Invitational

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Daemen University women's bowling team opened play at the Destination Orlando Invitational here today. The field will consist of 18 teams, several of which are ranked nationally by the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA). In addition to tournament host and 17th-ranked Sacred Heart and Daemen, the field also includes Alabama A&M, No. 2 Arkansas State, No. 22 Delaware State, No. 11 Duquesne, Emmanuel, No. 15 Fairleigh Dickinson, Florida A&M, No. 7 Jacksonville State, Monmouth, Saint Francis, No. 4 Stephen F. Austin, Texas Southern, Tulane, Alabama-Birmingham, No. 1 Vanderbilt and No. 6 Youngstown State.

Today's action featured five Baker format matches.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Daemen opened the day with an 847-825 loss to Saint Francis University. Daemen opened up a 552-517 lead after the Wildcats posted a 213-195 win on game three, but Saint Francis answered with a 175-138 win in game four and secured the win with a 155-135 win in game five.
  • Daemen then suffered a 1,117-839 loss to seven-ranked Jacksonville State. JSU held a 441-319 lead after two games and opened up a commanding 669-469 lead after posting a 228-117 win in game three.
  • The Wildcats picked up their lone win of the day following a 921-850 win over Alabama A&M. Daemen prevailed in the first three games and held a 566-471 lead after posting a 191-172 win in game three. Alabama A&M cut into the lead with a 213-154 win in game four, but the Wildcats bounced back and secured the win with a 201-166 win in game five.
  • Daemen closed out the day with back-to-back losses to nationally-ranked teams.
  • The Wildcats battled No. 1 ranked and defending national champion Vanderbilt, but suffered 928-853 loss. Daemen opened the match with a 209-157 victory, but Vandy took game two 183-130 and opened up a 555-522 after posting a 215-183 win in game three. The Commodores closed out the match with wins in game four (183-171) and game five (190-159).
  • The day came to an end with a 937-856 loss to tournament host and 17th-ranked Sacred Heart. Daemen held a 534-515 lead after three games, but the Pioneers secured the victory with wins in game four (229-157) and game five (193-165).
  • The Wildcats now stand at 14-9 on the year.
UP NEXT
The tournament continues tomorrow with five traditionally scored matches. Action gets underway at 8:30 a.m.
