Bulls Outlast Wildcats In Exhibition Game

AMHERST, N.Y. – Playing in their only exhibition game of the season, the Daemen University women's basketball team made the short trek to the University of Buffalo's Alumni Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats fell to the Division I Bulls 58-42. Two Wildcats scored in the double-digits as Daemen shot 36-percent from the field (17-of-47). 
 
IMPACT PLAYERS
  • Senior forward Natalie Angeletti (Panama, N.Y.) shot 83-percent from the floor, knocking down 5-of-6 field goals for a team-high 10 points.
  • Senior guard Alahna Paige (Rochester, N.Y.) finished with a team-high 10 points, shooting 3-of-9 from the field, 1-of-4 beyond the arc and knocking down three of four free throws on the day. She snagged five defensive rebounds and a block.
  • After a successful freshman season in 2022-23, sophomore forward Claire Pikett (Holland, N.Y.) started the game this afternoon and finished with a team-high five rebounds, one point, one assist and one steal. 
  • Playing in her first college game, redshirt freshman Kayla Campbell (Franklin, N.Y.) led the team with three steals while adding three points (1-of-3 from the field) and three rebounds. 
  • Sophomore guard Shyla Montgomery (Brockton, Mass.) shot 3-of-13 from the field for six points and added three defensive rebounds, three assists and three steals. 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Daemen trailed UB 11-8 after the first quarter of play. The Wildcats shot just 27-percent from the field in the first ten minutes of the game, with Hauer leading the team with four first-quarter points.
  • The Wildcats put together a solid second quarter, shooting 58-percent from the field (7-of-12) and 1-of-2 from beyond the arc while out-rebounding the Bulls 10 to 6 in the quarter. Daemen trailed the Bulls 28-25 at the half. Angeletti led the Wildcats with six points in the quarter.
  • The Bulls narrowly outscored the Wildcats 12-10 in the third as Daemen went into the final quarter trailing 40-35. Daemen shot 5-of-13 in the period.
  • UB controlled the fourth quarter with an 18 point outing while holding the Wildcats to just 7 points in the final quarter of play. Daemen banked just two field goals and one three point bucket in the fourth, while UB shot 54-percent from the field. 
  • This marked the third straight season that the Wildcats and Bulls played an exhibition match.
UP NEXT
The Wildcats will open the 2023-24 season in Rochester, N.Y. at the Redhawks Classic Tournament on Nov. 10-11 where they will play games against Bentley and Felician.
