AMHERST, N.Y. -- The Daemen University men's and women's cross country teams both remain ranked in the East Region, as released on Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) in the fourth weekly regional rankings. The East Region consists of the top 10 teams from the East Coast Conference, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, and the Northeast-10 Conference.
Â
After being ranked fourth last week, the
Wildcat men dropped to fifth in the region after not competing this past weekend. Daemen finished with a program-best second place finish at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 23 after placing three runners in the top 20 over the 8K race. Four of the top five Daemen runners earned personal bests on the course, and 11 total men's runners hit PR's at the meet. The Wildcats were undefeated going into the Harry F. Anderson Invitational after winning both the Frank Dillon Memorial Invitational and the Daemen Alumni Invitational. It marked the first time since 2011 that the Wildcat men won consecutive meets.Â
Â
Fellow ECC member Roberts Wesleyan sits atop the men's East Region poll for the second straight week, followed by Southern Connecticut and Franklin Pierce of the Northeast-10. Assumption and Daemen round out the top five. Southern New Hampshire, Wilmington, Saint Michael's, Bentley, and Adelphi are the final five teams.Â
Â
The
Wildcat women sit at tenth in the region, dropping one spot from ninth last week. Daemen ran just three women in the Harry F. Anderson Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 23 and did not record a team score. The Wildcat women have had a successful season with a second place team finish at the Frank Dillon Memorial Invitational in the season opener and a first place team finish in the Daemen Alumni Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 16.Â
Â
Roberts Wesleyan remains at the top of the women's East Region poll. Southern Connecticut, Southern New Hampshire, Saint Anslem and Adelphi of the NE-10 round out the top five teams in the region, while Saint Michael's, D'Youville, Jefferson, Bentley, and Daemen are the final five teams.Â
Â
The Wildcats return to action this Saturday, Oct. 7 when they will travel to Houghton, N.Y. to race in the Highlander Invitational.
