Daemen Runs ECC Winning Streak To 27 Straight

Wildcats Down Host Mavericks In Straight Sets

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Make it 27 consecutive wins in regular season East Coast Conference play for the Daemen University women's volleyball team as the Wildcats went on the road to defeat Mercy University 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-20) today. The host Mavericks had no answer for Daemen's freshman phenom Charlotte Koerber (Munich, Germany) who tallied 17 kills and .533 hitting percentage to lead the way. 

With the victory, the Wildcats improved to 13-4 overall and 4-0 in ECC play this season. It also marks Daemen's sixth consecutive victory overall. 

Mercy, which was picked in a tie for second place in the ECC's preseason coaches' poll, dropped its second straight match, falling to 7-3 overall and 2-2 in the league. 

IMPACT PLAYERS
  • Koerber's offensive prowess was on display throughout the match. Her 17 kills came on just 30 attempts while she committed just a single hitting error. She added three service aces and accounted for a match-high 20 points. 
  • Fifth-year senior Maggie Burns (Louisville, Ky.) and senior Vanessa Kuliga (Glenview, Ill.) combined for 18 kills and a .302 hitting percentage. Burns was the only other Daemen player in double figures, finishing with 10 kills and added 11 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. 
  • Senior Dunja Masic (McHenry, Ill.) exclusively handled setting duties for Daemen today and finished with a match-high 33 assists.
  • Senior libero Jasmine Brundage (East Aurora, N.Y.) finished with a match-high 13 digs. 
  • Larrisa Schneid (10 kills), Anyelainy Vizcaino (nine kills), Alanis Calderon (15 assists) and Yarianna Gonzalez (10 digs) paced the Mavericks.
GAME NOTES
  • The Wildcats have won six straight meetings with Mercy and own a 17-3 advantage in the all-time series. 
  • Koerber has now recorded at least 10 kills in 11 matches this season, including seven of her last eight appearances. 
  • Burns continues her ascent towards the 1,000 kill milestone for her career. Including her one season spent at Urbana University, Burns has totaled 931 kills in her five-year career. 
  • Daemen posted a .291 hitting percentage in the match and tallied at least 13 kills in each set. Defensively, they limited Mercy to just a .179 hitting percentage and 25 total kills.
