All Five Starters Score In Double Figures In 86-62 Win Over Slippery Rock

AMHERST, N.Y. – Senior Dylan Fasoyiro (Houston, Tex.) scored 23 points and classmate Justin Hemphill (Buffalo, N.Y.) added 22 to lead the Daemen University men's basketball team to an 86-62 victory over Slippery Rock University tonight at Lumsden Gymnasium on the Daemen campus.

Daemen, which is ranked seventh in the Division II College Sports Communicators (D2CSC) East Region poll, has now won four of its last five games and improved to 5-3 on the year. It marked just the second game for SRU, which dropped to 1-1.

IMPACT PLAYERS
  • All five starters scored in double figures for the Wildcats.
  • Fasoyoiro scored over 20 points for the second-straight game and the third time in the past four games. He connected on 3-of-5 from downtown and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. He also grabbed four rebounds and collected a career-high six steals.
  • Hemphill made his first start since his freshman season. He was good on 9-of-10 shots from the field and made all four of his free throw attempts. He netted the 22 points (two shy of his career-high) in just 28 minutes of action.
  • Senior Nick MacDonald (Amherst, N.Y.) scored 11 points in the first half and finished with 14 points and seven rebounds.
  • Graduate student Joey Atkins (Watervliet, N.Y.), the reigning East Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, added 12 points, eight rebounds, a career-high six assists, a block and two steals.
  • Senior Andrew Mason (Webster, N.Y.) added 11 points, three boards and two helpers, while freshman Ryan Heath (Rocester, N.Y.) played a season-high 19 minutes.
  • Graduate student Maceo Austin paced The Rock with 14 points.

GAME NOTES
  • It marked just the sixth all-time meeting between the two teams. The all-time series is now tied at 3-3.
  • Slippery Rock is a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). The Rock went 17-12 overall (11-11 PSAC) and lost in the opening round of the PSAC Tournament last year. Slippery Rock was picked fourth in the PSAC West Division preseason coaches' poll.
  • Daemen returns four starters from last year's team that finished 20-8 overall and 12-4 in the East Coast Conference. The Wildcats were picked second in the ECC preseason poll.
  • SRU, which scored 100 points in its season-opening win over West Virginia Wesleyan, connected on just 38-percent of its shots and turned the ball over 20 timers tonight.
  • Daemen made the most of the turnovers and finished with a 34-8 advantage in points off turnovers.
  • The game was tight for the first 10 minutes before the hosts took control with a 15-2 run that gave Daemen a 37-24 lead with four minutes left before halftime.
  • The teams traded buckets the rest of the half and Daemen took a 41-32 lead into intermission.
  • Daemen opened the second half with a jumper by Fasoyiro and the Wildcats maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the game.
  • A dunk by Hemphill with 9:27 left to play gave Daemen a 67-45 lead and the lead got as large as 29 points (86-57) after Atkins converted a conventional three-point play with 2:14 to play.
  • Daemen shot 63-percent (17-for-27) in the second half and finished 31-for-58 (53%) from the field overall. The Wildcats connected on 6-of-16 three-pointers and made 18-of-24 from the charity stripe.
  • SRU finished 21-of-56 (38%) from the field overall and made just 5-of-17 from downtown. The Rock canned 15-of-19 from the charity stripe.
     
NEXT JUMP BALL
The Wildcats are idle until Sunday (Nov. 26) when they travel to Clarion University.
