AMHERST, N.Y. – Three members of the Daemen University women's soccer team have been named to the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) Women's Soccer All-East Region team. The 26-player team represents the top players from the East Coast Conference, the Northeast-10 Conference and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. The full announcement of the D2CCA All-East Region Teams was made in a press release this morning.
Sophomore forward Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) and freshman midfielder Magda Carpenter (Lebanon, Conn.) were named to the 13-player first team, while junior defender Alyssa Diaz (Rochester, N.Y.) was a second-team selection. Miranto and Carpenter will now be eligible for D2CCA All-America honors, which will be announced on Dec. 6. Miranto and Carpenter also become the first players in program history to garner first team D2CCA All-Region honors.
Daemen's three selections this season tied for second most by a team. The College of Saint Rose placed five players on the team, while Daemen, Jefferson University and Molloy University all had three selections. Daemen has now produced at least one D2CCA All-Region selection in four of the last five years (no team was selected in 2020 due to the COVID 19 pandemic). Previous selections include Tatyjana Scalisi in 2019, Jamie Boyar in 2018 and 2019 and Celia de Pablo Esteban in 2018.
Miranto enjoyed an outstanding sophomore season. A four-time ECC Player of the Week selection during the season, she became the first player in program history to be named ECC Offensive Player of the Year after totaling a league-high 16 goals and 37 points. A first team All-ECC selection, she registered three hat tricks on the year and recorded at least one goal in nine of Daemen's 17 games. She ranks sixth nationally in goals per game (0.94) and eighth nationally in points per game (2.18). She earned third-team All-ECC honors as a freshman last year after she ranked second on the team in goals (5) and points (11). Miranto has already racked up 48 points (21 gls, 6 asts) over her career and has recorded at least one point in 15 of her last 22 games dating back to the end of last season. A product of North Tonawanda High School, Miranto is also a member of the Daemen women's lacrosse team and totaled eight goals and eight assists in the team's inaugural season last spring.
Carpenter was one of only two freshmen named first team All-Region. The 2023 ECC Rookie of the Year, she posted a pair of multi-goal games during the season and ranked second on the team in goals (6) and points (15). A two-time ECC Rookie of the Week selection during the year, she joins Diaz as the only players in program history to collect ECC Rookie of the Year honors. The Lyman Memorial High School product started all 17 games this season and led the team in shots (46).
Diaz earns D2CCA All-Region honors for the first time in her career. She was moved from forward to defense this season and earned all-conference honors for the third-straight season. She was a first team All-ECC selection at forward and the ECC Rookie of the Year in 2021 and last year was a second team selection at forward. A first team selection as a defender this year, she headed up a defense that ranked fourth in the ECC in fewest goals allowed (17) and tied the program's NCAA Division II era record for fewest goals allowed in a season. She also managed to contribute two goals and an assist on the year. The first player in program history to collect a major post-season honor from the league, she has played in all 50 games (49 starts) over her three-year career and has totaled 15 goals, seven assists and 37 points.
Ranked as high as eighth in the East Region by the College Soccer Coaches this season, Daemen went 9-2-3 over its final 14 games and finished 9-5-3 overall and 6-1-1 in the ECC. The Wildcats finished second in the final ECC regular season standings, which ranks as the program's highest finish since joining the conference in 2013. The Wildcats also put together a program record 11-match unbeaten streak during the season. Seeded second in the ECC Championship tournament, the Wildcats defeated Mercy in the tournament semifinals to earn their first-ever appearance in the ECC championship game. The season came to an end following a loss to Molloy in the title game.
