Both teams are now 1-2 on the season. IMPACT PLAYERS Five players scored in double figures for the Wildcats. Sophomore Justin Glover (Buffalo, N.Y.) paced Daemen with a career-high 16 points, as he connected on 6-of-12 shots and was 2-of-4 from downtown. Senior Justin Hemphill (Buffalo, N.Y.) had a productive 24 minutes off the bench, as he totaled 14 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and a steal. Senior Dylan Fasoyiro (Houston, Tex.) and graduate student Joey Atkins (Watervliet, N.Y) both finished with 12 points. Atkins added five boards and two blocks. Senior Anderson Shaw, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference preseason Player of the Year, drilled five three-pointers and totaled 30 points for the Falcons. GAME NOTES It marked the first ever meeting between the two programs. SPU is a member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) and finished 17-11 overall and 12-6 in the GNAC last year. The Falcons were picked fifth in the GNAC preseason poll. Daemen returns four starters from last year's team that finished 20-8 overall and 12-4 in the East Coast Conference. The Wildcats were picked second in the ECC preseason poll and are receiving votes in the National Basketball Coaches Association (NABC) Division II preseason poll. Daemen held a 23-13 lead nine minutes into the game, but the Falcons turned the tables and outscored the Wildcats 23-13 over the next six minutes to even the game at 36-36. Daemen took a 46-40 lead following a triple by Glover with 1:43 left in the half, but Shaw answered with a three-pointer for the Falcons and the Wildcats would take a 46-43 lead into halftime. Glover opened the second half with a bucket to give Daemen a 48-43 lead, but the Falcons answered with back-to-back three-pointers by graduate student Kyle Luttinen and SPU would never trail after that. SPU eventually took its largest lead of the game, 71-58, following a jumper by Shaw with just over seven minutes left, and Daemen came no closer than six points (77-71) the rest of the way. It was a tail of two halves for the Wildcats. After shooting a blistering 62-percent (18-29) in the first half, the Wildcats connected on just 10-of-31 shots (32%) in the second half and were outscored 44-31 after halftime. The Wildcats made 6-of-17 three-point attempts and canned 15-of-18 from the charity stripe. SPU finished 31-of-63 (49%) from the field overall and made 14-of-35 from downtown. The Falcons canned 11-of-13 from the charity stripe. NEXT JUMP BALL Daemen returns to action next weekend when the Wildcats host the East Region Challenge at Lumsden Gymnasium.
