Women's Soccer Returns To USC Regional Rankings

Wildcats Set To Host East Coast Conference Championship Title Game Sunday

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen University women's soccer has returned to United Soccer Coaches Division II East region poll. The Wildcats are ranked a season-best eighth in the poll released earlier today. Daemen made its debut in the poll on Oct. 10 at No. 10 and was ranked No. 9 on Oct. 17 and Oct. 24. Daemen did not appear in the Oct. 31 poll after suffering a loss at Mercy University in the 2023 regular season finale. Daemen's appearance in the Oct. 10 poll two marked the first time the Wildcats have appeared in the regional rankings since the end of the 2019 season.

The Wildcats rebounded from the loss to Mercy in the regular-season finale and posted a 2-0 victory over Mercy in the semifinals of the East Coast Conference Championship tournament this past Sunday at Williamsvillle South High School. Daemen posted a program record 11-match unbeaten streak during the year and stand at 9-4-3 on the year. Daemen has netted a league-high 35 goals this season, while ranking second in fewest goals allowed (15). The Wildcats feature seven all-conference players. Sophomore Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) was named the ECC Offensive Player of the Year and leads the league in goals (16) and points (37). Freshman Magda Carpenter (lebanon, Conn.) is the ECC Rookie of the Year. She netted Daemen's second goal yesterday and has totaled six goals and 15 points on the year. Sophomore Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.), a second-team All-ECC pick, has played every minute in goal and made five saves en route to her sixth shutout of the year yesterday. Among the league leaders she ranks first in save percentage (.877), second in total saves (107), third in shutouts (6) and fourth in goals against average (0.94).

Daemen will host Molloy University in the ECC Tournament championship game this weekend. The teams will square off for the conference tournament title and an automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Division II Championship tournament Sunday (Nov. 12) at 12:30 p.m. at Williamsville South High School. Admission is $8 and tickets must be purchased through the ECC online ticket portal. The game will be streamed live through the ECC Network.

Molloy (10-4-5) enters the championship game riding a four-game winning streak and is ranked ninth in the region. The Lions will be making their fourth-straight appearance in the ECC Tournament championship game.

Undefeated College of Saint Rose remains atop the regional poll, followed by Adelphi University, Southern New Hampshire University, Jefferson University, Saint Anselm College, Frankllin Pierce University, Wilmington University, Daemen, Molloy and the University of Bridgeport.
