Daemen Sits In Fourth Place After Day 1 Of The Division II Invitational

NEW CASTLE, Del. -  The Daemen University women's bowling team took part in opening day action of the Wildcat Division II Invitational today. The 11-team tournament features six teams (Caldwell, Daemen, Kutztown, Mercyhurst, Molloy and Wilmington) that are ranked or receiving votes in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Division II/III Poll released Feb. 10. The tournament is being hosted by Wilmington University.

The Wildcats played five matches today, all of which were scored using Baker format. Daemen dropped three of the five matches and sits in fourth place based on total pinfall. The Wildcats posted a total pinfall of 4,406. Mercyhurst sits atop the standings with a total pinfall of 4,594, while Wilmington (4,498), Chestnut Hill (4,421), Daemen (4,406) and Kutztown (4,402) round out the top five.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Daemen opened the day with an 887-817 loss to Molloy. Molloy held a 506-448 lead after three games and took control with a 215-181 win in game four. Daemen closed out the game with a 188-166 win in game five.
  • Daemen then posted back-to-back wins over St. Thomas Aquinas (907-726) and Chestnut Hill College (942-810).
  • Daemen won all five games against STAC. The Wildcats held a 344-313 lead after two games and opened up a 94-pin lead (535-441) after a 191-128 win in game three.
  • Daemen dropped the first game against Chestnut Hill (233-180), but the Wildcats rebounded with wins in the final four games. 
  • Daemen closed out the day with back-to-back losses to host Wilmington (995-879) and Bloomfield (912-861).
  • Wilmington and Daemen split the first two games, before the host Wildcats opened up a 783-698 lead following wins in game three (216-201) and game four (195-168). Wilmington closed out the natch with a 212-181 win in game five.
  • Bloomfield built a 596-486 lead after winning the first three games, before Daemen posted a 184-165 win in game four. Daemen posted a 191-151 win in game five, but Bloomfield held on for a 912-861 win.
UP NEXT
Day two of the tournament gets underway at 10 a.m. tomorrow. The Wildcats will play five traditionally-scored matches.
