Daemen Finishes Fourth at Wildcat Division II Invitational

Nowak Earns All-Tournament Honors

NEW CASTLE, Del. - The Daemen University women's bowling team closed out play at the Wildcat Division II Invitational today. The 11-team tournament features six teams (Caldwell University, Daemen, Kutztown University, Mercyhurst University, Molloy University and Wilmington University) that are ranked or receiving votes in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Division II/III Poll released Feb. 10. The tournament is being hosted by Wilmington.

The Wildcats played three Baker format best-of-seven matches today. Daemen entered the day in second place in the standings and opened the day with a 4-2 loss to top-seeded Mercyhurst. Daemen then suffered a 4-1 loss to Chestnut Hill, which put the Wildcats in the third/fourth place match against Caldwell. Daemen suffered its third loss of the day, 4-1, and finished in fourth place. Mercyhurst claimed the title following a 4-2 win over Chestnut Hill in the championship match.

Daemen, which was the defending tournament champion, earned its No. 2 seed in today's bracket round after posting 9,340 pins over the first two rounds. Mercyhurst sat atop the standings after the first two rounds with 9,385 total pins.

HIGHLIGHTS

The Wildcats got off to a good start in their opening match against Mercyhurst, winning the opening game 222-162. Mercyhurst then win the next three games, before Daemen posted a 213-161 win in game five. The Lakers closed out the match with a 251-171 win in game six.
Daemen dropped the first two games against Chestnut Hill, before posting a 213-156 win in game three. CHC answered with a 209-193 win in game four and the Griffins won the match and advanced to the championship match following a 163-155 win in game five.
Daemen and Caldwell split the first two games of the third/fourth place match. Caldwell took the lead with a 214-188 win in game three and opened a 3-1 lead after edging the Wildcats, 184-183, in game four. Caldwell claimed the match and third place with a 169-155 win in game five.
Senior Caitlyn Nowak (West Seneca, N.Y.) placed second among all bowlers with a 213.80 average during Saturday's traditional round play and was named to the all-tournament team.
Seniors Paige Bartosz (West Seneca, N.Y.) and Nicole Bergeron (Lima, N.Y.) also finished among the Top-10 bowlers during the traditional matches on Saturday. Bartosz finished sixth (209.20) and Bergeron placed 10^th(197.20).

UP NEXT
Daemen is now 41-29 on the year and is idle until March 11 when it takes part in a quad-match with D'Youville, Medaille and Mercyhurst.
