ROCHESTER, N.Y. – It was a record-setting night for the Daemen University women's basketball team as they won their fifth straight game and 15
th of the season in a 65-33 victory over longtime instate rival Roberts Wesleyan on Wednesday evening. The Wildcats allowed the fewest amount of points in the NCAA era (2015-present) in the victory. The previous record low was 35 points (vs. Dist. of Columbia on Jan. 19, 2020 and vs. Molloy on Feb. 16, 2018). With the win, Daemen moves to 15-4 on the season and 10-3 in East Coast Conference play, while dropping Roberts to 3-16 and 2-10 in the ECC.
The Wildcat defense held Roberts to just nine first half points, with Daemen taking advantage of the Redhawks' mistakes with 20 points off Roberts' 16 first half turnovers. After an outstanding first half, the Wildcats kept the foot on the gas in the final half of play, leading by as much as 40 points in this game. The Wildcats outscored the Redhawks in three of the four quarters, and finished shooting 44-percent from the field (24-of-55) and 28-percent from beyond the arc (5-of-18). The Wildcats played an incredibly balanced offensive performance tonight, and 12 out of 13 Daemen players that stepped onto the court scored. Playing in her hometown, junior guard
Alahna Paige (Rochester, N.Y.) led all shooters with 12 points tonight. Roberts' Riley Childress totaled 11 points, 33-percent of the Redhawks points on the night.
With the win, the 10-3 Wildcats move back into first place in the ECC with three regular season games left to play. Mercy beat St. Thomas Aquinas tonight, moving both teams to a 9-3 conference record. Daemen has a half-game lead in the conference standings.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- Alahna Paige shot 50-percent from the field (4-of-8) and knocked down 2-of-5 from beyond the arc along with two free throws to finish with a game-high 12 points. She tallied four defensive rebounds, two assists and a steal. Paige has tallied double-digit points in 11 games this season, and in four of the last five.
- Fifth year forward Mickayla Ivy (Grand Rapids, Mich.) finished with eight points, shooting 43-percent (3-of-7) from the field and 2-of-2 from the stripe. She pulled down six rebounds, and added two assists and three blocks to her stat line. Ivy was the only Wildcat to tally a block on the night, and she leads all Wildcats with 23 blocks on the year.
- Sophomore forward Julia Hauer (Binghamton, N.Y.) went 3-of-4 from the field, including two back-to-back buckets in the third quarter, and knocked down both free throws on the day to finish with eight points. She snagged four rebounds and added a steal.
- Redshirt senior Maddy Stearns (Clarence, N.Y.) totaled a career-high six points, knocking down a three point field goal and 3-of-4 free throws.
- Freshman forward Claire Pikett (Holland, N.Y.) finished with a team-high seven rebounds, marking the second straight game that she tallied seven boards.
GAME NOTES
- The Wildcats win their third game at the Voller Athletic Center on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan this season. Daemen won both games in the season-opening Redhawks Classic tournament this season, beating nationally ranked Pace and Felician on Nov. 11 and 12.
- Paige knocked down back-to-back three's in the first quarter alone, marking the seventh time this season that the junior tallied multiple three point field goals on the season.
- After the Redhawks scored the first basket of the game 50 seconds in, Daemen then held Roberts scoreless for the rest of the first quarter. The Wildcats led 16-2 after the first 10 minutes of play.
- Roberts committed nine turnovers in the first quarter alone. Daemen turned the ball over just twice in the first quarter.
- The Wildcats led as much as 24-6 points in the first half after holding Roberts to 13 scoreless minutes.
- Daemen entered the half with a 29-9 lead over the Redhawks. Nine points is the least amount of points that Daemen has given up in a half all season, and is the lowest first half score for an opponent since Molloy scored 11 points in the first half on Feb. 16, 2018.
- The Wildcats held the Redhawks to shooting just 18-percent (4-of-22) from the field in the first two quarters. Daemen shot 39-percent (12-of-31) with three three-point field goals at the break.
- Daemen put together their highest scoring quarter of the game in the third, outscoring Roberts 25-7 after banking 9-of-13 (69-percent) from the field and out-rebounding the Redhawks 12 to 4.
- The Wildcats out rebounded the Redhawks 39 to 28 in the game. Roberts totaled just nine second-half rebounds compared to 22 for the Cats.
- Three Wildcats combined for nine of Daemen's 15 steals tonight. Junior guard Gabby McDuffie (Buffalo, N.Y.), freshman guard Shyla Montgomery (Brockton, Mass.) and Pikett each tallied three steals.
- The Wildcats finished with 32 bench points, and totaled 34 points off 24 Roberts turnovers.
- Daemen has now won five straight games. The average margin of victory for the Wildcats during this stretch is 27 points.

The Wildcats are idle until next weekend when they play host to St. Thomas Aquinas on Friday, Feb. 17 at 5:30 PM. Daemen will host Mercy on Sunday, Feb. 19 in a noon matchup.
