Women's Tennis Falls To Adelphi

QUEENS, N.Y. - The Daemen University women's tennis team suffered a 4-0 loss to Adelphi University this afternoon in a match played at Alley Pond Tennis Center.

Daemen, which posted a 3-7 mark during their traditional fall season, dropped to 4-10 on the year. It marked the spring opener for the host Panthers, who improved to 9-5.

Adelphi picked up a 6-1 win at No. 2 and a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles to earn the one point as per NCAA Division II scoring. 

The Panthers secured the win by winning the first three singles matches. Sophomore Kitsa Scime (Williamsville, N.Y.) played No.1 singles for the first time this season and battled graduate student Barbie Quagliardi before suffering a 5-7, 6-3, 5-10 setback. Sophomore Yinett Del Leon (Cape Coral, Fla.) played No. 2 singles for the first time this season and suffered a 7-5, 6-1 setback to freshman Katarina Liedbeck. Adelphi secured the win after sophomore Caterina Federici defeated freshman Carly Armitage (Rochester, N.Y.) at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-3. With the match decided the final three singles matches were halted.

Scime falls to 11-6 in singles play on the year and is now 15-7 in her last 21 singles matches dating back to the end of last season. She has moved into the Top-10 in both combined singles and doubles wins (32) and career singles victories (19) among Daemen's all-time leaders.
