Wildcats Fall To Nationally Ranked Mavericks In Season Finale

Daemen Closes Inaugural Season With A 7-9 Record

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Sophomore Lenna Moussa scored five goals and classmate Leah Hansen added three goals and an assist to lead the nationally-ranked Mercy College women's lacrosse team to a 19-6 victory over Daemen University this afternoon at Mercy Field.
 
Mercy, which is the defending East Coast Conference champion and is ranked No. 20 in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Division II poll, ran its winning streak to five-straight games and improved to 11-6 overall and 5-1 in the ECC.

It marked the season finale for Daemen, which finishes its inaugural season with a 7-9 overall record and 2-4 mark in the league. Daemen officially announced it was adding women's lacrosse as a varsity sport in June of 2021.

Mercy scored four unanswered goals in the first 1:34 of the game and held a 9-1 lead after the first quarter. The hosts Mavericks took a 14-2 lead into halftime and led 19-3 after three quarters.

Graduate student Casey Decatur (Apollo Beach, Fla.) scored three goals for the Wildcats today and closed out the year with 37 goals, a team-high 37 assists and a team-high 74 points. She entered the game as the ECC leader in assists and ranked second in points. Junior Dana Bacher (Hamburg, N.Y.) was held without a goal for just the third time this season and closed out the year with a team-high 43 goals and ranked second in points (52).

Sophomore Camryn Day (Hamburg, N.Y.) scored three times today, giving her 25 goals and 33 points on the year. Day, who entered the game with a league-high 98 draw controls, recorded three draw controls today and finished the year with a team-high 101 draw controls. Freshman Ella Bouley (Auburn, N.Y.) totaled a team high five draw controls today and she finished the year with 28 goals and 34 points. She also led the team in caused turnovers (18) and ranked second on the team in both draw controls (68) and ground balls (38).

Freshman Blair Pfohl (Lockport, N.Y.) went the distance in net for Daemen and made five saves. Pholf played every minute in goal for Daemen this year and finished the year with 118 saves and a team-high 39 ground balls. Junior Olivia Maute played the first half in net for Mercy and made two saves. Freshman Olivia LaMonica played the second half a stopped three shots.

Mercy outshot the Wildcats 16-3 in the first quarter and the Mavericks finished with a 33-14 advantage in shots overall. The Mavericks also finished with a 20-10 edge in draw controls.
