Wildcats Suffer 1-0 Loss To Queens In ECC Opener For Both Sides

AMHERST, N.Y. – Queens College broke a scoreless tie 15 minutes into the second half and held on for a 1-0 victory over Daemen University in NCAA Division II men's soccer action today at Karrer Field. It marked the East Coast Conference opener for both teams. Queens posted its second-straight win and improved to 2-2-1 overall. Daemen dropped to 1-3-1.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Daemen nearly took an early lead, but a free kick by graduate student Ajan Rajamohan (Spencerport, N.Y.) from 30 yards out was tipped just over the crossbar by Queens netminder Juan Cruz Ladino.
  • Daemen posted an 11-4 edge in shots in the first half, but the teams entered halftime knotted at 0-0.
  • Queens had a solid chance at a goal two minutes into the second half when sophomore forward Harry Cooke collected a rebound in the Daemen box and one-timed a point-blank shot that was saved by Daemen's Harry Firth (Reading, England).
  • The lone goal of the game came following a corner kick by senior Adolfo Martinez Paquet. Freshman Andrew Johnson got his head on the offering, and it slipped past Firth and into the Daemen net.
  • Daemen got four shots off over the final 30 minutes, but only one of those shots was on net.
  • The Wildcats finished with an 18-13 edge in total shots, but just a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal. The visitors posted a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
  • Firth made three saves for the Wildcats, while Cruz Ladino turned away five shots for the Knights to earn the shutout.
