The host Purple Eagles picked up their first win of the year and improved to 1-2, while the Wildcats dropped to 4-2. The match was played under NCAA Division I/II scoring rules and Niagara claimed the doubles point after winning two of the three matches. Daemen's No. 1 singles team of senior Frida Rubio (San Diego, Calif.) and junior Kitsa Scime (Williamsville, N.Y.) posted a 6-3 win over seniors Elena Mayet and Coral Rodriguez, 6-3. Niagara took No. 2 doubles, as senior Jaida Borg and junior Mercedes Velasco defeated sophomore Carly Armitage (Rochester, N.Y.) and junior Emily Jablonski (Alden, N.Y.), 6-0. The Purple Eagles earned the point after sophomore Enrica Favaron and freshman Larisa Kotok got past junior Yinett Del Leon (Cape Coral, Fla.) and junior Arriana Lysiak (Depew, N.Y.), 6-1. Niagara took five of the six singles matches. Mayet rallied for a win over Rubio at No. 1 singles. Rubio took the first set, 6-4, before Mayet answered with back-to-back 6-2 wins to take the set. Scime and Rodriguez waged a solid battle at No. 2 singles. Scime opened with a 6-0 win in set one, before Rodriguez responded with a 6-4 win in set two. Scime regrouped and posted a 6-1 win in set three to take the match. Borg, Kotok, Velasco and Favaron all posted straight-set wins at No. 3, 4, 5 and 6 singles to conclude the match. MATCH NOTES The matched marked the eighth all-time meeting between Daemen and Niagara. The Purple Eagles have prevailed in all eight matches.  Scime recorded her 31st career singles win. She ranks fifth among Daemen's all-time leaders in career singles wins. She is 8-2 in singles play this year and is now 26-9 in her last 35 singles matches dating back to the end of her freshman season.  Rubio saw her three-match singles winning streak come to an end.  Rubio and Scime have won five of their last seven doubles matches and are 6-4 on the year.  Daemen is idle until Oct. 7 when it travels to the University of the District of Columbia for an East Coast Conference match.
