Koerber Named ECC Player of the Week

AMHERST, N.Y. -- Daemen University freshman outside hitter Charlotte Koerber (Munich, Germany) picked up her first career East Coast Conference weekly honor, earning the first ECC Player of the Week award of the 2023 season. The conference announced the first weekly awards on Tuesday afternoon for competitions taking place August 28 through Sept. 2.

Koerber, a 6-foot freshman outside hitter, led the Wildcats offensively on the weekend, totaling 46 kills (3.07 kills per set) and scooping up 40 digs (2.67 digs/set), third-most on the team. She started all four matches in the Tony Banner Memorial Tournament, and helped the Wildcats to a 2-2 record with wins over Fayetteville State and Lake Erie. Koerber tallied two double-doubles (kills-digs), including posting a career-high 16 kills (3.2 kills per set) and 11 digs in the five-set thriller against Shippensburg on Friday. She turned around and posted 15 kills and 14 digs against Lake Erie for a career-high .237 hitting percentage on Friday evening.

Along with being an offensive weapon, Koerber totaled 10 service aces on the weekend, including a career-high six aces against the Storm. She added three solo blocks in the final two matches of the tournament.

Koerber is the first Daemen player since Caitlyn Meyer in 2021 to earn ECC Player of the Week for the first week of the volleyball season.

The Wildcats make their 2023 Lumsden Gymnasium debut this weekend as they host the Wildcat Den Classic presented by Ellicott Hotels. Daemen will host California (Pa.) in their home opener on Friday at 6 PM, then will face Davis & Elkins on Saturday at 11 AM and wrap up the tournament with a 4 PM match against Ohio Dominican.
