Geoff M Schneider Men's Basketball Jumps Two Spots In D2CSC Regional Poll 1/29/2024 3:54:00 PM By: CONTACT: Tom McDermott, Director of Athletics Communications | tmcdermo@daemen.edu AMHERST, N.Y. – The Daemen University men's basketball team is ranked No. 6 in the 10th Division II College Sports Communicators (D2CSC) East Region Men's Basketball Media Poll for 2023-24. The Wildcats jumped two spots from No. 8 after going 2-0 last week. Daemen has been ranked in every regional poll this season and climbed as high as No. 5 three weeks ago. Daemen has been ranked in 67 of the last 75 D2CSC (formerly D2SIDA) regional polls dating back to January 2018. The Wildcats rollewd to two East Coast Conference wins at Lumsden Gymnasium this past weekend, posting an 84-58 win over Molloy and a 78-56 decision over Queens. Daemen has won three-straight games and stands at 15-6 overall and is tied for third place in the ECC standings with a 5-3 league mark. Daemen has featured a balanced scoring attack and solid defense thus far. Six players are averaging in double figures and the Wildcats lead the ECC in fewest points allowed per game (69.9). Senior Dylan Fasoyiro (Houston, Tex.) has scored over 20 points six times this season and is averaging 15.8 points with 28 three-pointers and 18 steals. Sophomore Justin Glover (Buffalo, N.Y.) is averaging 12.5 points and 3.5 assists. Graduate student Joey Atkins (Watervliet, N.Y.), the ECC Preseason Player of the Year, is averaging 11.9 points and 7.6 rebounds. A five-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week selection, he ranks second among the ECC leaders in blocks (36) and third in steals (35). Fifth-year senior Nick MacDonald (Amherst, N.Y.) is averaging 11.5 points, while senior Andrew Mason (Webster, N.Y.) is contributing 11.6 points with a team-high 56 three-pointers. Senior Justin Hemphill (Buffalo, N.Y.) is producing 10.8 points and a team-high 7.7 rebounds per contest. Daemen collected 29 points in this week's regional poll. St. Thomas Aquinas collected all six first-place votes and remained atop the poll for the second-straight week. The remainder of the top five includes Saint Michael's (54 pts), Post (48), Bentley (41) and Adelphi (33). The bottom half of the poll includes Daemen, Pace (25), Southern New Hampshire (17), Southern Connecticut (12), Dominican (4) and Jefferson (4). The D2CSC East Region media poll is conducted by sports information professionals representing the East Coast Conference, Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and Northeast-10 Conference.
