Men's Volleyball Tops Brock 3-0 In Exhibition

AMHERST, N.Y. – The Daemen University men's volleyball team played their first exhibition match of the 2024 season with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-15) win over the Brock Badgers of Canada on Thursday night.
 
The Wildcats out-hit Brock 35-21 in the match for a .358 hitting percentage, committing just 11 attack errors on 67 total attacks. Daemen finished with seven aces to Brock's one and totaled six blocks after garnering eight block assists and two solo blocks.
 
Daemen senior opposite Cameron Milligan (Pavilion, N.Y.) led the Wildcats offensively with nine kills and zero errors on 14 attacks for a .643 hitting percentage, adding two assists, one dig and an assisted block. Fifth year outside hitter Zach Schneider (Lockport, N.Y.) finished with eight kills on 14 attacks with three errors for a .357 hitting percentage along with five digs, one assist and one ace on the night. Newcomer Jack Rooney (Lakeview, N.Y.) totaled six kills for a .333 hitting percentage, while freshman Ondrej Arabasz (Jicin, Czech Republic) totaled two kills, two aces, one solo block, two assisted blocks and four digs.
 
The Wildcats open the 2024 season on Sunday when they travel to Columbus, Ohio for a 4 PM match against the Ohio State Buckeyes, who come into the 2024 season ranked #5 in the nation by the AVCA.
 
GAME NOTES
  • The Wildcats and Badgers traded points throughout the first 10 points, but a 7-2 run lifted Daemen up by five for a lead that the Wildcats would never relinquish. Daemen won the first set 25-21 with Milligan leading the team offensively with four first-set kills.
  • Daemen jumped out to a 12-6 lead early in the second and stayed ahead throughout the rest of the set, going on an 8-2 run to close out the second 25-15.
  • The Cats led by as much as 9-3 in the third and continued the dominance, going on a 7-0 run to take a 20-9 lead late. Brock put up a fight at the end, trading points with the Wildcats, but Daemen won the third set 25-15 to take the match 3-0.
