Women's Soccer Welcomes Clarion to Karrer Field

ON THE PITCH
The Daemen University women's soccer team return home to take on Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) member Clarion University on Oct. 12 with kick-off set for noon.
 
LAST TIME OUT
In a rematch of the 2023 East Coast Conference Women's Soccer Championship, Molloy University defeated Daemen, 1-0, back on Oct. 5.  Isabella Muro broke the scoreless tie and scored the lone goal of the game in the 55th minute as she attempted a shot from 30 yards out that found the back of the net. Daemen continued to pressure Molloy throughout the second half and nearly tied the match in the 88th minute off a shot from junior Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.), but the ball hit the post and went back into play. Molloy kept Daemen at bay for the remainder of the contest secure the 1-0 win. In net, Elyse Muñoz made six saves for her third win of the year for Molloy while junior Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) made seven saves in the loss.
 
LEADING THE PACK
Schultz, Miranto and sophomore Magda Carpenter (Lebanon, Conn.) currently lead the ECC and are ranked nationally in multiple statistical categories. For Schultz, she leads the ECC and is ranked third in the nation for total saves with 74 and ninth in saves per game at 8.22. Her .882 save percentage is ranked 73rd in the country and also leads the ECC. Miranto's .78 goals per game average ranks 16th nationally while Carpenter is the conference leader and is 21st in the nation for shots per game with an average of 3.89.

WILDCATS AGAINST THE KEYSTONE STATE
Dating back to the 2021 season, Daemen is 4-0-1 against schools from Pennsylvania. The Wildcats drew with Chestnut Hill College, 1-1, on Sept. 19, 2023, and defeated Lincoln University (Pa.) last season, 5-0 on Oct. 1, 2023. During the 2022 campaign, Daemen downed Lincoln (Pa.) (Sept. 29, 2022) again, this time by a 6-0 final. Dating back to the 2021 season, the Wildcats earned an emphatic 9-0 win against Lions on Sept. 26, 2021, and defeated Clarion in the last meeting between the two sides before this season, 2-1, on Oct. 26, 2021.
 
HOME COOKING
After opening their 2024 campaign with seven consecutive road games, the Wildcats will end the year with five of their final seven games=at home in Amherst, N.Y. The final home push begins on Oct. 12 against Clarion and wraps on Nov. 2 in the regular season finale against crosstown rival and ECC opponent D'Youville. During the final home push, the Wildcats will take on their third nationally ranked opponent of the year in Gannon, who was ranked seventh in the most recent USC Top 25 Poll.
SCOUTING CLARION (1-8, 0-7 PSAC)
The Golden Eagles dropped their last match to Pitt-Johnstown, 4-0, on Oct. 9 to extend their losing streak to eight consecutive matches. Clarion earned its lone win of the year back on Sept. 5 in their season-opener by defeating Ursuline College, 2-1. Ciara DiMauro leads Clarion with four points (two goals) while in net, Sage Sherk has started the last six contests and made 47 saves so far this season.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Daemen leads the all-time series, which dates back to the 2017 season, 3-0-1.
UP NEXT
The Wildcats are back in action next week for their final road swing of the regular season, starting with a 4 p.m. match against Saint Michael's College on Oct. 16.
