ERIE, PA. – The Daemen University women's bowling team won all five of their matches during the first day of the 2024 Grapevine Classic. The two-day tournament features seven other teams with D'Youville, Hilbert, Pitt-Bradford, Saint Vincent, Penn State Behrend, Pitt-Greensburg and Ursuline also competing.
Today's action featured five traditionally scored matches with the Wildcats sitting in first place after day one. The Wildcats have now won nine consecutive matches dating back to last week at the Mercyhurst Invitational.
HIGHLIGHTS
• Daemen opened the day with an 850-832 victory over East Coast Conference and crosstown rival D'Youville before downing Hilbert, 846-711. The Wildcats continued their winning ways with a 905-760 win over Pitt-Bradford and 936-867 triumph over Saint Vincent. The Blue and White ended the day with a 939-772 victory over hosts Penn State Behrend.
• The Cats 167 pin victory over the Lions marked their largest win using traditional scoring of the 2024-25 campaign so far.
• The Wildcats also picked up their 22nd all-time win against D'Youville and have won five of the last six matches against the Saints. The Blue and White now lead the all-time series, 21-6.

Mackenzie Hutchins (Wheatfield, N.Y.) and reigning ECC Rookie of the Week
Cassandra Westphal (Spencerport, N.Y.) were the only two members of the Wildcats to appear in all five matches. Hutchins posted an average of 189.4 and bowled a 200-or-better (211 vs D'Youville & 219 vs Saint Vincent) in two matches. As for Westphal, she posted an average of 185.8 and knocked down 200-or-more pins twice (216 vs Pitt-Bradford & 204 vs Penn State Behrend).
• 2023-24 All-ECC selection
Mollie Gizicki (Brighton, Mich.) appeared in four contests and posted an average of 181.3. Her 221 pins against Saint Vincent represented the highest individual score in a single match of any Daemen player during the first day.
• Sophomore
Chelsea Porga (Welland, Ontario) finished with an average of 171.3 across four matches.
• Fellow sophomore
Brenna Forsha (Tonawanda, N.Y.) also appeared in four matches and posted an average of 184, highlighted by a 201-pin outing versus Pitt-Bradford.
• Junior
Bailey Glass (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) made her season-debut with a 153-pin outing against crosstown rival D'Youville.
• Sophomores
Sabrina Palmer (Waterloo, N.Y.) and
Cassidy Papero (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) each appeared in one match with Palmer bowling a 143 against Hilbert and Papero posting a 158 against Saint Vincent.
