Women's Bowling Secures First Place at Grapevine Classic

ERIE, PA. – For the second time in three seasons, the Daemen University women's bowling team came home from Erie, Pa. with new hardware after claiming the 2024 Grapevine Classic championship title. The two-day tournament featured seven other teams and was hosted by Penn State Behrend.
 
The Wildcats totaled 9,112 pins while going 9-1 across 10 matches to secure the team title. Saint Vincent, who ranked sixth in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Division II/III preseason poll and recieved votes in the NTCA Top-25 Poll, finished in second with 9,005 pins and an 8-2 record while D'Youville rounded out the top three with a total pinfall of 8,439 and 7-3 overall record.
 
Along with team honors, junior Mackenzie Hutchins (Wheatfield, N.Y.) was tabbed to the all-tournament team. The third-year bowler appeared in all five matches during the first day of the tournament and posted a team-best average of 189.4 and bowled a 200-or-better (211 vs D'Youville & 219 vs Saint Vincent) in two matches.

 HIGHLIGHTS
• All of today's matches were scored using Baker Format.
• Daemen continued its winning ways by opening day two with a 988-791 victory over Pitt-Greensburg to improve to 6-0. The Wildcats knocked down 200-or-more pins in four of the five games as well.
• The Wildcats kept rolling in their next two matches, defeating Ursuline, 889-783, and Hilbert by nearly 200 pins, 955-761.
• In a rematch from day one, Daemen faced RV Saint Vincent. After splitting the first two games, the Wildcats took game three by a 205-158 final to claim the lead for good and never look back to win, 919-877.
• The win improved Daemen to 9-0 at the Grapevine Classic and marked their 13th consecutive win as well.
• The Wildcats and Bearcats faced each other in both teams' final match of the day with Saint Vincent coming back to hand the Wildcats their first loss of the tournament, 919-855.
• Even with the loss, the Wildcats finished 9-1 overall and with the highest total pinfall of the tournament compared to an 8-2 mark for the Bearcats to take home the championship for the second time in three seasons.

Daemen is back in action from Oct. 18-20 when they head to the Sunshine State to compete in the Destination Orlando Tournament.
