Buffalo Tops Wildcats In Exhibition Game

AMHERST, N.Y. – The Daemen University women's basketball team played their first of three exhibition games against Division I opponents on Sunday, falling at the University at Buffalo 82-38.
 
Sophomore guard Sophie Auer (Lewiston, N.Y.) led the Wildcats with a team-high 29 minutes and was the sole Daemen player to score in the double-digits today, finishing with 18 points after shooting 54% from the field (6-of-11).
 
The Wildcats will travel to play at Syracuse University on Tuesday, Oct. 29 in a 7 PM exhibition game.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • It was the first game in a Wildcat uniform for eight Daemen players today.
  • The Bulls held Daemen scoreless in the first quarter with a 21-0 lead after the Wildcats went 0-15 from the field in the first.
  • Daemen got on the board in the second with a layup from freshman forward Ne'vaeh Buntley (Rochester, N.Y.) and a triple from junior guard Joline Raposo (Tampa, Fla.). The Wildcats scored 11 points in the half to trail 42-11 at the half.
  • Auer scored nine of Daemen's 13 points in the third quarter. The Bulls led 66-24 going into the final quarter of play.
  • Daemen scored 14 points in the fourth off buckets from Auer, Buntley, Raposo and a free throw from junior guard Shyla Montgomery (Brockton, Mass.) in the closest quarter of the game. The Wildcats allowed just 16 points from the Bulls in the final 10 minutes of play.
  • Junior forwards Cecilia Lapertosa (Whitesboro, N.Y.) and Claire Pikett (Holland, N.Y.) each pulled down six rebounds for the Cats.
