Orange Outlast Wildcats In Exhibition

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Seven players scored for the Daemen University women's basketball team as the Wildcats dropped their exhibition game to Syracuse University on Tuesday night, 90-50. Daemen was 20-of-69 from the field against the powerhouse Orange who finished shooting 50-percent (36-of-72) on the night.
 
The Wildcats will wrap up their three-game exhibition slate against their third straight Division I opponent on Friday as they travel to Olean, N.Y. to play St. Bonaventure University.
 
IMPACT PLAYERS
  • Freshman forward Ne'vaeh Buntley (Rochester, N.Y.) led the Wildcats offensively, scoring 15 points after going 54-percent (6-of-11) from the field and 75-percent (3-of-4) beyond the arc. Buntley pulled down three defensive rebounds in the game.
  • Junior guard Shyla Montgomery (Brockton, Mass.)  totaled eight points after going 4-of-10 from the field and added a team-high four points, two defensive rebounds and two assists.
  • Junior forward Cecilia Lapertosa (Whitesboro, N.Y.) led the team with six rebounds (three offensive boards) and finished with seven points, two assists, one block and one steal.
  • Junior guard Claire Pikett (Holland, N.Y.)  totaled seven points and two rebounds.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Lapertosa, Auer and Buntley all knocked down triples for the Wildcats in the first quarter as the Orange led Daemen 28-10. 30 seconds into the second quarter, Buntley dropped another three ball to open the scoring for the Wildcats. The Cats finished with 10 more in the second quarter after shooting 2-of-6 from beyond the arc and headed into the break down 52-20. Buntley (6 points) and Lapertosa (5 points) led the Wildcats in scoring at the half.
  • Daemen opened the third quarter on a 6-5 run in the first two minutes after Montgomery, Auer and Pikett all knocked down baskets. The Wildcats and Orange ach shot 8-of-18 from the field in the third, with Cuse narrowly out-scoring Daemen 20-17 in the quarter. Montgomery (6 points) and Pikett (4 points) were Daemen's top third-quarter scorers. The Wildcats were 6-of-18 from the field in the fourth and were led by Buntley with six points off two layups and a jumper. The Orange finished a game on a 9-0 run to finish with a 90-50 win.
