ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Daemen University dropped a closely contested contest against defending East Coast Conference Tournament champions Molloy University, 1-0, in a rematch of the 2023 ECC Tournament final Saturday afternoon at John A. Darcy Field.
With the win, the Lions improved to 3-4-1 and remain perfect in ECC play at 2-0 while the Wildcats dropped to 4-5 and 3-1 in conference play with their four game winning streak also coming to an end.
HIGHLIGHTS
• Despite out shooting Molloy 6-5 in the first half, the Wildcats went to the locker room with the score tied, 0-0.
• Isabella Muro broke the scoreless tie and scored the lone goal of the game in the 55
th minute as she attempted a shot from 30 yards out that found the back of the net.
• Daemen continued to pressure Molloy throughout the second half and nearly tied the match in the 88
th minute off a shot from junior
Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.), but the ball hit the post and went back into play. Molloy kept Daemen at bay for the remainder of the contest secure the 1-0 win.
• Molloy ended the contest with a 18-12 edge on shots, highlighted by a 13-6 difference in the second half.
• In net, Elyse Muñoz made six saves for her third win of the year for Molloy while junior
Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) made seven saves in the loss. Both goalies played the full 90 minutes.
GAME NOTES
• Molloy now leads the all-time series, 8-4, with the series dating back to the 2013 season.
• Daemen and Molloy were selected first and second respectively in the 2024 ECC Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll.
