AMHERST, N.Y. – The Daemen University men's soccer team had their Senior Day spoiled in a 3-1 loss to D'Youville University in East Coast Conference men's soccer action Saturday afternoon at Karrer Field.
The Saints finished the regular season 5-7-4 overall and 3-2-3 in conference play and qualified for the ECC Men's Soccer Championship as the fourth overall seed and face Molloy University in the first round. As for Daemen, they finish the 2024 campaign with a 3-10-2 overall record and 0-7-1 mark in ECC action.
HIGHLIGHTS
• D'Youville got on the board first in the seventh minute as Charlie Stewart collected a failed clear from the Daemen defense and sent the ball into the back of the net.
• Out of the halftime break, Daemen tied the match in the 54
th minute as
Fabrizzio Jaramillo (Lynwood, Calif.) intercepted a pass from a D'Youville defender and cut inside the box where he buried a ball in the low left corner of the net.
• The Saints took the lead back for good in the 75
th minute as Ethan Robinson netted his first goal of the year after Conor Livingston's shot deflected off the woodwork moments prior.
• Shawn Richardson converted a penalty kick in the 79
th minute to close the scoring for the contest.
• Senior
Arturo Bustamante (South Gate, Calif.) made four saves in his final collegiate start while Matthew Solorio tallied three saves for the Saints in the victory.
• D'Youville outshot Daemen, 16-8, but only held a 7-4 edge in shots on goal.
GAME NOTES
• Today marked the first win for the Saints in series history. The Wildcats still lead the all-time series, 7-1.
• Jaramillo scored his first goal since Sept. 18 at Goldey-Beacom College.
• Sophomore
Calvin Kron (Greece, N.Y.) made his 15th start of the season today and played the opening 30 minutes of the contest. He ends the year as the only Daemen player to start all 15 matches.
