Women's Basketball Posts 20 Point Victory At Chestnut Hill

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- A trio of Wildcats scored in the double digits as the Daemen University women's basketball team collected its second straight win in a 20-point road victory, 73-53, at Chestnut Hill College on Thursday afternoon. The Wildcats move to 2-3 on the year with the win while the Griffins drop to 1-5 overall. 

Daemen graduate student guard Danielle DiCintio (Somers, N.Y.) led all players with 22 points in the outing, marking the second time this season that the transfer guard scored 22 points in a game. Junior guard Joline Raposo (Tampa, Fla.) chipped in a season-high 14 points while junior forward Cecilia Lapertosa (Whitesboro, N.Y.) added 13 points in the win. The Wildcats shot 31.5% from the field but an impressive season-high 42.3% beyond the arc, knocking down 11-of-26 for three.

IMPACT PLAYERS
  • DiCintio scored a game-high 22 points after going 7-of-15 from the field and banking 6-of-9 beyond the arc. The graduate student pulled down three defensive rebounds and added three steals, one assist and one block to her stat line.
  • Lapertosa pulled down her first double-double of the year and third as a Wildcat, totaling 13 points after going 5-of-18 from the field and banking a triple and snagging 16 rebounds. Lapertosa was a unit under the basket with nine offensive boards and seven defensive rebounds while dishing out two assists on the day. 
  • Raposo scored in the double-digits for the first time this season, banking 14 points in just 14 minutes of play after shooting 6-of-8 from the field and 2-of-4 in three-point territory. The junior guard notched an offensive board and two steals.
  • Junior forward Claire Pikett (Holland, N.Y.) totaled seven rebounds -- three offensive boards -- and dished out a team-high five assists while tallying three steals, four points and a block on the day.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • In a tight first quarter, the Griffins scored the final five points of the first and continued the run in the opening minutes of the second to take an 18-11 lead over Daemen early. The Wildcats wouldn't overtake the lead until 2:36 left in the first half with a triple from Lapertosa to bring Daemen up 28-27 and took a 32-30 lead into the half after outscoring the Griffins 21-14 in the second. 
  • Daemen and Chestnut Hill traded points in the first five minutes of the third quarter but the Wildcats would end the third scoring 13 of the final 19 points off a pair of DiCintio triples and a three from Buntley to take a 49-43 lead into the final quarter of play. 
  • The Wildcats blew the game out in the fourth, starting the quarter scoring seven of the first nine points to take an 11-point lead. The buckets kept falling Daemen's way as the Cats scored seven field goals in the fourth and made 8-of-10 free throws to outscore the Griffins 24-10 in the final 10 minutes of play. 10 of DiCintio's 22 points came in the fourth quarter as Daemen finished with a 20-point victory. 
GAME NOTES
  • This marked the first matchup between the Wildcats and Griffins. 
  • Lapertosa has scored in the double-digits in all five games played this season and is averaging 11.4 points and a team-high 9.2 rebounds per game. 
  • The East Coast Conference's leading three point shooter in 2023-24 as a Roberts Wesleyan Redhawk, DiCintio leads Daemen with a 40.5 shooting percentage from beyond the arc, making 15-of-37 triples on the year.
  • Daemen out-rebounded their opponents for the fourth straight game, finishing with 44 boards compared to 42 for the Griffins. 
  • Chestnut Hill committed 25 turnovers and Daemen translated that into 27 points off turnovers while CHC only scored five points off Daemen's 10 turnovers in the game.
