Schneider Tallies 22 Kills In Daemen's 3-1 Win At Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, CT – The Daemen University men's volleyball team came back from a 1-0 deficit to top Sacred Heart University 3-1 (18-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-12) on Friday night. The Wildcats win their fourth straight match and move to 7-2 on the year while opening Northeast Conference play with a 2-0 record. Sacred Heart moves to 5-7 overall and opens NEC action 0-1.
 
Three Wildcats posted double-digit kills on the day with fifth year outside hitter Zach Schneider (Lockport, N.Y.) leading all hitters in the match with 22 kills. Daemen totaled 52 kills on 100 attacks for a .370 hitting percentage on the day.
 
Daemen will travel to North Andover, Mass. on Saturday to take on Merrimack in a 7:30 PM match.
 
IMPACT PLAYERS
  • Schneider continues his hot streak with 22 kills on 45 attacks with just five errors for a .378 hitting percentage on the day while adding three digs and one ace for a match-high 23 points.
  • Senior opposite Cameron Milligan (Pavilion, N.Y.) finished with 11 kills and three errors on 18 attacks while hitting at a .444 clip. Milligan totaled five block assists and one ace in the victory.
  • Junior middle Maverick O'Neill (East Amherst, N.Y.) posted 10 kills on 16 attacks with just three errors for a .438 hitting percentage, adding a team-high six block assists, two solo blocks, three digs and an ace.
  • Fifth year setter Sean Califf (Oak Park, Ill.) totaled 45 assists (11.3 assists/set), seven digs and three block assists. 
GAME NOTES
  • After trading points to open the first set, Sacred Heart went on a 10-4 run after seven Wildcat errors and held onto a lead for the rest of the match. Daemen scored four unanswered points late, but SHU took the first set 25-18.
  • The second set was back and forth from the jump. The Wildcats and Pioneers traded points and tied the game up at 19, but Daemen won six of the final eight points to win the second 25-21 to tie the match up at one a piece.
  • After nine Daemen kills, the Wildcats and Pioneers were all tied up at 12. The third set remained close but the Cats out-hit SHU 17 to 7 and took the third set 25-22.
  • Daemen cruised through the fourth, winning 25-12 after totaling 13 kills and one error on 19 attacks for a .632 hitting percentage while holding SHU to just seven kills.
  • The Wildcats out-blocked Sacred Heart 11-3, with five Wildcat players combining for 18 block assists.
  • Daemen is now 3-1 all-time against the Pioneers and have won each of the last three meetings.
  • The Wildcats are ranked third in the latest Off The Block Division II Coaches Poll.
